Fly the bird one flight a day on the creance to the lure, and feed him his whole meal after that flight. Repeat this until he comes instantly 30 meters, then fly him free.

Creance work is not for fitness, its conditioning the bird that the lure is a good reward, you are doing the opposite and you will have problems later with him refusing the lure.

Have you made the effort to read a book on longwing training?

When you say gasping do you mean he seems short of air? Three short flights may leave him a bit short but how quickly does he get his breath back? If this continues for peace of mind if it was my bird I would have him to a vet and have him scoped for asper He probably does not have a problem but if he does the quicker you are on to it the better the chance of recovery. I also agree with Little Joe that calling a bird three times a training session is twice to often! Once and a big reward is the way to go.

Sounds like he was out of breath and panting a bit.

Does he respond instantly when he sees the lure?

I the air you mean? Thats okay for now. As long as he is airborne when he sees the lure and sits steady on it when you make in. Those are the important things to teach him on the creance.

Once he is flying free, you can give him some more air time and try and lob the lure up for him to take in the air.

Good luck.

If he's having trouble catching the lure. Slowly bring it up of the ground so it's only an inch or so and hopfully he'll start to foot it just of the ground. Then start to increase the height so that it ends up about 1 foot above the ground. If he won't take that, hang it off a pole. I had some trouble with a gyr/saker that wouldn't catch the lure this did the trick.
