Nice vid but can anyone tell me where to get the 'leash' rope from & what mm width is best.
I have looked at ebays selection of 'sailing ropes' but there are so many sizes !! Cheers - Cherry

3mm for kes sized stuff
4mm for med birds - eg male harris and male falcons
5mm for larger reds/ferrug/harris

Get the rope from: ship chandlers, mountain warehouse/Cotswold (outdoor shops sometimes sell them) and ebay.

HTH!

Always made all my leashes from thick cord, B and Q do some good stuff. I've tried a bought loop leash and although I like the design the rope was very thin and the combination of water and baiting meant it was impossible to undo with one hand. Thick rope doesn't have this problem. Oh and get the brightly coloured one too, more likely to find it if lost.

I personally buy Mil-Spec paracord, cut to 1m length and tiefigure of eight at one end. I then thread a 15mm or 20mm tap washer on as the stop. The cord has a 550lb breaking strain so would be fine for anything up to a male red tail. (Im not saying a bate is going to be over 550lbs :P). It is also tightly braided so cannot get a talon caught.

If anyones interested here's the site that I get the cord from:

http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/550-paracord.html

Its the proper 7 strand stuff as used by the US military. £5 for 10m is a bit of a bargain for the "real deal". The tap washers i use aren't that much either iirc.

Heres a picture of the leash
