View Full Version : LOCO IS DEAD

18/05/'05.

It is with the saddest pain in my heart to have to let everyone know the my brave little Perlin is dead.
On openening up the enclosure this morning, I noticed blood in either a very bitty casting or a mute. He was not being his usual mental self and I wieghed him as usual but he was down to 9 1/4oz. (yesterday he was 9 3/4oz. in the evening,as I was going to fly him but he was asleep on his block :!: :!: )
I placed him in the garden on his block and gave him a chick which he took and then hid in the longer grass. I sat with him for 20 minutes and observed his behaviour. I then called Alan Jones, our avian vet and he was seen by 09:30. Alan checked him all over and said that Loco had 'bloat' in his stomache, probably caused by something he'd eaten. He gave him a shot of something and asked to see him again tomorrow morning.
On getting home, I put him back out on the block and he seemed to perk up a little; he was still alert and Snudz came over as we took Zarbu out. We were out for about an hour and on returning, Loco had gone into decline. He was listless, no responsive and I said that I didn't think he would last another 3 hours. I sat with him literally cuddling him and kissing his little head, which if he was OK he would not allowed me to do. I decided to phone Alan back to se if there was anything else that I could do and he suggested crop tubing him with a glucose/honey solution. Danni went to get him and by the time I had got the tube and solution sorted, she came out sobbing as he died in her arms. The following 30 minutes and now is such a gut renching thing and I am barely able to see the keyboard through the tears.
I am taking him back to the vet tomorrow for a postmortem which hopefully will help us to understand why this trajedy happened.

I can honestly say I do not want this to happen to anyone, and anyone who has had a loss will know what we are going through.

My heart goes out to you Clive. I don't know what to say, only sorry. I'm so gutted for you. This is quite a shock.

Remember that your lucky man to have flown him and most importantly you have Zarbu.

Thinking of you mate.

My deepest sympthay to you, it`s very hard to loose a bird, or any animal for that matter, it`s the unfortunate thing with keeping any amimal be it a Bird, Dog, Cat, Hourse, Whaterver in most circumstances we will unfortunatley out live them, but when it is unexpected like this it even harder, :(

As soo as I get the results of the pm, I'll let every one know.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts, it is much appreciated and I felt that I had to do it as soon as to get the right feeling and sentiment. It will take a long time to get over this but if some good comes out of the pm, and helps in anyway the demise of another bird then all is not in vain. He was a super little bird as anyone who saw him will verify. Life on on but so does the families grief.

Just logged on to read your sad news Clive. I can't imagine how you're feeling mate. I'm really gutted for you and know you'll eventually get some comfort from reading your diary with Loco and reliving the good times.

Not sure what I can say as everyone has said it all. I haven't been on the forum long but I remember reading about Loco in the threads and was maybe concidering a Perlin next year to go with the Harris after your exploits.
I am sorry for your loss, losing any close family member is always going to be hard. Just remember the good times and forget about this unfortunate time.
I wish you and your family well in this difficult time.

Clive I am so very sorry for all of you at the sad loss of little Loco.

Si told me as he knew I was tied up with personal matters, hence the late reply.

Tears came to my eyes as he was a very special little bird to me too.

I will fondly remember him watching the TV at Matts sitting there all pristine after a preening session taking it all in, like he owned the whole world.

So long little tornado xxxxxxx

Once again, thanks all for the kind words; I think that because I was able to tell everyone virtually as soon as things happened it helped to lighten the load.
I know many of you have been through the same and only a few saw how devasted Danni and I really are. 5 months and a day is all we had the little mght; and as I've said before, he was and still is a pleasure to all that saw him, and will stay in our hearts.
I think this thread can now be archived so we can all get on with enjoying our other birds.

A good freind has said several times now, "Enjoy them while you have them, as you never know what is around the corner."
