The postman has just been and I am amazed at how quick Exotic Direct have acted.
I sent the claims form back on Saturday, they would have received it on Monday, and all sorted out yesterday.
I insured him for £500, and the payout was for £456.86 and described as follows.
Vets bill = £71.24, sum insured £500 = £571.24
Not covered, Post mortem £29.38, Polict Excess = £35 and outstanding premium (I pay monthly by DD) = £50.
Total amount received £456. 86
I can't recomend Exotic Direct highly enough; no quibble and fast. They did the same year before last when Kier had a mouth infection.
WELL DONE EXOTIC DIRECT

BrianM, depending on how a person writes the claim form out, there may be a loop hole in my policy.
Under Section 3 - Theft/weather perils; it states:
What is covered.
1. Theft during the policy year
2. Death or loss as a result of Fire, Wind, Storm and Lightning.
What is not covered:
1. More than the max. benefit stated on your certificate.
2. Any amount if you or the person looking after your pet has freely parted with it, even if tricked into doing so.
3. Any amount in the event of escape or mysterious disappearance (Unless by an insured peril).
To get around it, you would have to say that whilst out flying, a storm or the weather changed and the bird was 'blown away' in the strong wind, or the lightning scared it and it disappeared.

Regardless of storm or wind I think they may use the above to reject a loss claim.

Bill,
I think there are policies which cover the hawk whilst flying but you only receive half the value of your hawk if your hawk isn't found.
