Have you read / have a copy of Ian Newton's book?
whilst being about 20 years old, it shows ( at least at monks wood, cambs) the sustainability and resurgence in populations even in the 80's/ early 90's.. it is a great source of information and a tour de force in scientific terms with regrad to the thread title. hth

Would agree 100% with you on that one, I would also put Robert Kenwoods new book on the Goshawk in the same league.
