If I had a successful breeding pair for a couple of seasons. Would it effect them to be moved? If not what are the correct times to move them to minise stress and not effect the up and coming season?

Ben, Lletty on this forum moved his HHs from Nottingham to Wales, whilst they were on eggs, I'm 100% sure they continued to sit the eggs in Wales (from memory).

A mate of mine sold a pair of HH last year and when he went into the aviary she had laid her first egg. I think they took the egg with the pair and she laid at least one or two more and hatched two out and I think laid at least one other clutch that year!!!!!!!
I think it depends on the species and how "keen" breeders they are but like Mark says I would try to have them in place by January.

Well Ben as you know my experience only relates to peregrines. I have introduced a tiercel to a falcon and vice versa in January and they have produced, albeit late the same year. Having said that one of the pair was already resident. If I were moving a pair any distance, I would look to move them ideally if the temp was fairly cool, in September before the autumn equinox. If there was an Indian summer ant temps were still very warm I would have to wait until October possibly even November. I would also site make the aviary as close to existing one as possible. hth mate

Ben i have moved various pairs including gosses, allbeit still on the same property but to different pens. I waited until the breeding season was over and all the youngsters were away and never had problems. I have also have paired up new birds in Feb and they bred that year but wouldn't want to move a proven pair that late.

There is no definitive answer to this one as all birds are different. I have moved birds that have laid eggs in the traveling box and she continued when put in the pen and others of the same species that you have lost a year.

Not sure, but it may Affect them. PMSL. You're an English teacher, aren't you, Ben?
My guess is that once they've done it, they'll continue, provided there are not additional stresses and strains. My friend has just bought a proven pair and has copied the previous owner's aviary.

Now that sounds like a job!
I'm in the wrong biz altogether.
Ben, I'll be moving a pair of birds trans-oceanic in the next couple weeks. If disaster ensues, I'll let you know. I'm not duplicating aviaries, either - I'm just gonna let them make up their own minds if they like the weather in Japan.
