Anyone know anything about a falconry festival in Mongolia? I heard there will be one in Ulan Bator this February, 22 - 26, but I don't know any details. If anyone knows anything about it or knows how I can find more information please post.

The only thing I know about this is the following:

Eagle festival is going to be organized in Dundad Zuun tourist camp which is located near UB. (it will be held in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park where is 65 km from UB). This Festival is little samller than the Eagle festival in Bayan-Ulgii. Best 15 Eagle trainers will come from Bayan-Ulgii to UB to participate in this festival.

I've found some info about the festival held last year, but nothing current. So no one is planning to go to this thing? I bought my plane ticket so if anyone is going we can meet up.

Anyone ever been to Mongolia that could give me advice on transportation, currency, and/or lodging?

Jonathan

An assortment of photos from my trip to Mongolia. The festival ended up being on the 26th. I arrived on the 21st thinking that the festival lasted for several days. I spent the first couple nights in Ulan Bator before getting out of the city on the 23rd. I stayed in a ger in the Terelj National Park for three nights. The eagle trainers came late on the 23rd and I got to hang out with them during the days leading up to the festival.

A marvelous experience. If anyone can make it out there next year I highly recommend it.

I answer your question.
It is a beautiful cape it is used that wings of a golden eagle have not iced over and have not become wet. Think we in Kazakhstan and Kazakhs of the western Mongolia we hunt with a golden eagle in the winter. In any frost, when there is no a strong wind. The bird is in the street if it to contain in a yurta or houses it will freeze or will be ill, if it from heat to take out on street.
Therefore, for constant application this cape (the clothes for wings) become beautifully with a pattern and a national ornament. And the tyre is applied to wing deduction once and the beauty is not necessary.

Thank you so much for the replies Bakyt!

That Blog had some beautiful pictures, I would like to see the festival in Ulgii also, it must have been much more exciting than the one in Ulan Bator. There were only 15 eagle trainers paticipating in that festival, and this year it was held at around the same period as the Mongolian Lunar New Year, so the turnout wasn't as high as it could have been.

Even at transportation with such cape feathers are less damaged.
In the Kazakh language is called "Iik kap"
