better chase after a young gos and use all your falconry skills to make it a good one and finish the season with a lot of game in the bag and beautiful memories of flights and hard work, than having a tame and sweet harris that will follow you like a dog but you have caught only three sick rats and two frogs during the season('')

Harris-Hawks hate goshawks I think, I heard about a lot of them attacking goshawks. it is true that the Harris is the perfect bird for some people, but I prefer the gos because it is more delicate to handle and I just love goshawks. I can not tell who is the better hunter, I have seen very good and very bad birds of both species, but mostly it is the falconer who is responsible for the performance of the bird.

Gosses and harris hawks should never be flown at the same venue at the same time - asking for an accident, especially if not all flown from the fist and even then still dangerous.

Always due to mistakes in a shared mews.

Definition of ironic - a friend who got a new female gos loaned his old female harris hawk out to a novice, both went on a field meet and the harris was following on in the trees - whack the harris takes the gos clean off his glove. The gos later died as a result of the injuries. Lesson learned.
Don't fly harrishawk and goshawks at the same place at the same time, it will result in ????

No Michael,
I'm colllecting a female spar for imprinting from your neck of the woods on Saturday. No time to do justice to a gos or longwing this season, the wife is still working most nights and the 2 boys now have plenty of hobbies - no more flying the gos everyday and arriving home when I like (until 2006 season  ).
How's the male gos - did he remain at 1-9 lb ? Just 2 gos chicks this year -one of each maybe.
Jim.

Hungry for information thats all BB, it would be interesting to see the avairy weight, start and finish first season weight. Also how it fairs on quarry. As you know they (p/r) make there best weights second/third season and I've not heard of a straight german male flying much above the 1-7 mark, so 1-7 taking all quarries in its first season would be the result of some real hard work and time (if straight german).

Well , this is going by his dad who wasn't pure german , he was 1/8 finnish , so its not a true german weight , his mum was 2lb 2oz pure german, both stunning hunters , but they where both imprints , going by some of the p/r's from last year (feedback) they range from 1lb/5 - 1lb 7oz. Im after crows pheasants rabbits and the odd duck, crows will make up most of his daily kills , his dad took over 200 of the things in his first season, rabbit population seems to have exploded this year so with any luck i have some bunnys to go at aswell, my biggest let down is the lack of a dog, i'll have to make do with ferrets this season n hope i can train one this summer. :D
