Ash from “Ash Longwings” has kindly sent me the following photo’s of 3 of his newly acquired falcons, the birds are a tiercel peales, tiercel fiji x anatum and a pure macrapus tiercel.
Not great pics, but it gives us an idea.
At the end of the quarantine period these falcons will be coming to stay with us in Doncaster, along with the rest of the falcons, they will make very welcome additions to our breeding project.
The Macropus look very exciting prospects for the future, can’t wait to see them in the flesh.

Hi Ken, they are kept isolated for 30 days, and then they can be moved if they show no illness.
Once we have them here I will take some better photo's of them, then let them settle in and see how things go.

Hi Emma, Won't know the weight untill we have them back home, they look at least like an average british tiercel.
As to when they will be available, how long is a piece of string. With luck not too long, I will certainly be trying to get some of the fiji x anatum in to my falcon. You could order one, but you would be 2nd after me

Quite simply "mate" the birds have gone to a very good friend of mine, who is also my business partner. Yes it was a pity the falcons laid so late or I would have done more from the fiji-man, anyway we have 2 eggs running and 2 more chances so at least we should see what they come out like.

Hi Chris,

I kept the Sister to this bird from the same year and imprinted her but she is nothing like that female. That female you have is one of the best built female pure Macropus I have seen over the years. You will want to be careful when she starts to breed as these birds are real laid backed until they have eggs and babies. I almost lost my eye to that birds Mum. They are very aggressive about their nest and also killing game. Also they are the best Mothers and very dedicated to the whole breeding thing. That birds Mother has six young right now and doing a fine job with them all...

Hi Brian, yes she really is a stocky falcon, the pair are looking very good together. The other male I have put with one of my own 2 year old falcons, they are getting on great, roosting close together and scraping.
I have 3 fertile eggs now running from the fiji with one more possible, can not wait to see how they look.
The peales is all that you said he would be, I have stripped him 5 times now with lots of very motile semen each time, so we will be seeing some peales x peregrinus this season.

Many Thanks

You can see how these particular Peregrines of Australia are equipped to deal with
powerfully armed quarry like Parrots. The bill is large and laterally compressed
to a degree and the feet are large but thicker than peregrinus say.

Having to deal with a large Cockatoo must take some doing.

Beautiful Falcon Alister.

Got to admit Andy looking at the Ernesti's you posted , I prefer them to Fiji or Macro's for colour. They reckon a lot of Black Shaheens being brought into this country back in the 60's were really Ernesti's???

Here is the full Sister to your "Fiji" from the same year-she is imprinted and would probably have laid this season but I was out of rooms! The other picture is "Ruby" a 3 year old full Sister from an early year parent reared female that is coming back in a month that has been flown the last few seasons. Hi VS,

To answer your question I have made about a half a dozen of female Gyr x Fiji's and one male in the past. A couple of the females were built and armed better then any Hybrid I have seen. The Gyrfalcon blood is dominate so the colors and size is more expressed by the Gyr blood. One year I made a female from a 3/4 black Gyr into a pure Fiji female and it was truly the most beautiful black Hybrid you could ever wish for. I will try to find a picture of her and post it..
