Just wondering.....
Does anyone know if the Shropshire hawking club is still running. I used to be a member some years back but lost touch. So is it still running, where do they meet, how many active falconers etc etc ??

Last I heard, they were meeting in the Black Horse, Bridgnorth....
You thinking of joining up again mate ? Be careful 'cos if your views, such as on certain legalities and ethics of falconry, don't match those of the committee, and you air those views, you'll be banned just like I was

Comical memories indeed.
Yep I remember the Roger Cook incident well.... and the S.a.s bodyguard too :). I have the vhs recording somewhere of the programme but no player to watch it on, I think it was in about 93 ?
Steve to reform the club might be a good idea..... but with more focus on active hunting falconers rather than cage bird admirers.
I nominate you Steve for the post of chairman.... ?

It would be good to get some old school fresh experienced people back.......!

When the falcon pub got renevated we moved to the black horse for a year or so, but a few members left because there was no private room and it turned out to be a bit of a joke really as a few pet keepers joined, this is when i stopped going to the monthly pub meets ?
They meet at a working mens club at high town bridgenorth on the first sunday of every month now.
Only three normally go out on the field meets which is pretty poor really as there are lots more members with hawks !!!???

You need the dirty dozen back in the club!!
when we started the club it was all about active falconers doing falconry
in fact we didn't have any Falcons in the club initially which is why we called it Shropshire Hawking Club. Think you need to ditch working mens club and find better venue and kick out the cockatoo handlers
Does anyone remember the quizzes we used to run and some young specky lad called david i think used to win everyone. Probably went on to win university challenge, nice lad though. Also anyone remember the story of the two wives ... Say no more !!!!

It is indeed Pete and glad to hear he's still around... smashing chap !
He lost his hawk in Craven Arms in 98 I think and it was out for nearly a year.... recaptured by a gamekeeper by which time Craig had bought another Hawk...which he later sold. I wonder if the one out loose at the moment is the same hawk ?
