i used this system all last season and love it-
it is real easy to do and provides a perfect fit every time- no sagging of the bell or anything like you can get with the traditional bewit. 8)
just gotta be carefull that the end of the tie is cut of real close to the fastning so if your bird messes with it, it cant harm itself by tightening the cable tie.
cheers
Put a few drops of supper glue on the connecter and it will never tighten up. Still I dont use cable ties around my birds legs, I just dont take the risk. Around here we most lost birds become part of the wild poplulation. A zip or cable tie will come over MUCH slower than just leather.

Looks good but does having the tag that close to the bell affect the sound?

Griff,
I am not trying to start something, but I do hope that your bewit was being used only when you take the bird out flying??? Cable ties left on a bird can be bad news, I have seen 3 birds that pulled at them and lost legs because of it. I love the idea.., but cut the cable tie after the session is over..Traditional might be the way to go here

Hi Ken
As mentioned in a previous post, if the cable tie "end" is super glued then it prevents the tie from being tightened.

Did the birds owners not pick up on the damage on the daily inspection of the kit and the bird? If not ....why not?

If someone starts a sentence with " I am not trying to start something " it usually means they are. It seems quite clear to me that the cable tie is fastened around the leather thus preventing any problems, and as had also been mentioned on this thread, a spot of super glue to the tie end is double safety. Perhaps if people read the whole thread before having a go ther would be less nit-picking

Griff,
In one instance the bird was lost for several days, exactly why the name tag is added, by the time the bird was back to the falconer the damage was done,, the other 2 were sources from other falconers...
Goldie,,Actually I was not trying to start something.. Super glue, crazy glue etc is not 100%.. I use that glue to secure my top knot on many hoods I make and you would not believe the questions I get back on why the top knot is not as tight as it once was. That is just from a falconer handling the hood, can you imagine the force the glue might under-go with a falcon nipping at it.. Again, there are safer ways to secure bells and name tags...I was just passing on advice, and another opinion not starting something..
