For all you guys out there who used to come along to the Falcon 1st Sunday of the Month. A few of us who have lost touch over the years, due to various reasons, but have very fond memories of our regular field meets and quizzes. I have met some of the old guys on here and would like to find out if anyone would like to meet at the
Plume Of Feathers Pub on the Bridgnorth Much Wenlock Rd . Sunday 15th March 7.30pm for a few beers and see who's got fat, (ME) who's gone bald etc

Seems like the old clubs lost a bit of it's spark cos no one from it has posted anything on shauns thread. But there have been some great comments on the old club and some cracking old school photos

Shall we have another club!!! Locally Will it get any support? and will anyone step up to the plate and help start it again?

I would just like to say a big thanks for all the guys who turned up to the pub last night for a few beers and a chinwag. I was thrilled to see quite a few faces that i havn't seen for over 10 years plus. In the end nearly 18 guys had a great time swapping stories and renewing friendships we even had a laptop on the bar showing videos from scotland. Thanks sean Lockodon (WHY HAS HE BEEN BANNED.. IT'S A DISGRACE) The general opinion, in fact 100% was let's do it again!

So i'll post soon where the next venue is to be for next month and i'm sure a few more people will turn up.

Few pics from last night coming later, please be aware some of the guys pictured were drinking alchohol FREE beer.
When we did roll out the pub sometime after midnight it looked like a handshaking contest, with everyone in the pub having spoken to everyone else.
I was a great night with lads saying it's good to put a real face to the avatar picture!
So thanks again to everyone for turning up and thanks to the IFF cos without it last night would never have happened

If you went let me know what you thought?

yeah was grand last night but....
Spoke to sean today and i think this has sent him over the edge. his confidence is shot, his wife tells me he's packed in his job and spent all the kids pocket money on meths & crack. I'm going out now with his kids to see if we can find him, he was last seen by the bridge with a load of rope, just hope he was looking for someone to play tug-of-war with.
I'll keep you updated, and just hope he pulls through this massive depression.
Iv'e been in touch with the priory clinic and gazza said he could stay in his room for while, if he promised not to show him the scotland videos.

My lad loved the Andrew Ellis print.
The response has been very positive and i was totally blown away to see Tony after so many years and David 'win em all' Horobin all grown up now.
Plus new lads fired up with enthusiasm, just like i was all those years ago,
before the pie monster visited me.

Seems this is gonna be a permanent thing.

Although towards the end of the night there were a lot of folks clock watching in anticipation of getting home to a less than impressed better half!!!!!!

Hope to see you all again soon!

I could'nt go through all that again. We just want a group of Falconers to meet and talk about Falconry.

So just meeting in the pub, probably the best way to do it No Politics, No Membership, No chance of banning anyone, ( ok colin )

HI guys I'm back... and thanks for the support ! (you know who you are)

Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and I think it can be deemed a success, it was great to catch up with faces from the past and meet a few new ones.

Next meeting to be held at the Station Inn in Ironbridge, date to be sorted and confirmed.

Steve or I will put something up in the next week or so about the next meet, although I'm not sure about the 'swinging/shirtlifters' theme that Steve suggested.

Once again many thanks and lets see some more new faces.

Didn't suggest anything of the type, you know i'm a stand up kind of guy.

Although have had a word with my mates at Eutopia on the A5, and when i said could 20-30 guys bring in some birds for chat and show a few videos
of them in action diving into the bush and fighting with each over. His eyes lit up like a torch.

Then when i mentioned that we keep them with leather anklets in a box in the car and get them to sit on our fists. I got lifetime membership and i now own half the club!!!

Anyway welcome back sean and keep the frascati intake to a managable level!!

Please!!

How about a location to suit some of the guys traveling further afield ? We have guys from the Kiddy/Wolvo area ... Seems fair to me. I think the venue lacked character and atmosphere... A pub seemed more friendly.

Any suggestions for the next venue ?

I have just semi-booked Martin Hollinshead to give a talk/slideshow about hunting with Eagles/hawks and all things capable of feather/fur..... needs to be a monday to thursday night booking this time due to his own committments.

A small fee on the door will more than cover his costs.... and signed copies of his books will be available.

I will post more as and when things become finalised.... should be a good night.

Alright Steve, the hotel is in low town next to somerfield, a few of us have met in there before for a drink or two!!!
Reckon it's a good place to have a guest speaker, nice old fashioned place with hunting scene pictures and oak panelled walls.
And as it's a hotel the bar is open late!!!
I'll leave it to Sean to have a chat with the owners as he knows them, if it all goes to plan should be a cracking night!!!

Martin Hollinshead called today to confirm the booking. A slideshow/talk with a Hare Hawking theme.

I could'nt get the Parlours but I feel this venue should be better.... A traditional type pub with real Ales and a skittle Alley for those brave enough to try. Should make for a good night :)

Martin will be bringing along his books for sale.

Monday 15th June, the Shakespear Inn. Bridgnorth, Shropshire.... At around 8pm. Free public parking just round the corner at Listley Street.

Entry fee at around £2.50 to cover costs.

Just to let you all know that a new region of the BFC has been formed in Telfrod. The West Mid & Borders Region will be holding it’s first meeting on the Friday 25th September at The Red Lion, Holyhead Road, Wellington, Telford, Shropshire. The pub is located 1/3 of a mile from M54 Junction 7 making it very easily accessible from all the surrounding areas. It has a totally private function room, large beer garden, ample parking, large public bar and food is available until 9 p.m. The meeting will start at 8pm and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
The monthly meetings will start from Friday 6th November and will be held on the first Friday of the month from this date onwards. Several people have been contacted about giving talks and lectures at the meetings. The committee will be endeavoring to get a very active and busy calendar holding plenty of field meets for both longwings and shortwings throughout the season.

Sling your hook Whittingham :) Is the Bfc so short of revenue they need to cream off us :)

Tongue in cheek.... as always lol.

Now there is no need to be like that, as the Shropshire Hawking Club no longer seems to be going there are a lot of falconers in Shropshire that want a club in the area, the venue is better, easier to get to and hopefully the rewards of being a member will be better, I think we could have an excellent regions.

Hope to see you there

Dave

Dave... You know I was only joking with my original post. :)

But since you ask....

I've never been one for commitee's or people organising me or my time....but each to thier own.

The whole point of this thread was a group of chaps meeting up and having a few drinks, and discussing old times - of which you attended and enjoyed.

So I hope these meets of ours will continue.... and likewse so will the Bfc shropshire group.

All the best, Sean.

Hi Sean,

membership costs £42 a year at present.
Of that, contributions are made to the HB and IAF to the tune of £6-7, you get two magazine type newsletters and a copy of the Falconer (the club journal), this year a calendar, third party liability insurance, and the chance to become involved regionally and nationally as much or as little as you like.

Best wishes,

Tony.

Hi Sean,

like any club, it won't be everybody's cup of tea, but it's got a lot to recommend it.
I hope you enjoy it if you decide to join.

Best wishes,

Tony.

Hope I don offend you Dave, but I dont understand the logic?

What the difference between a group of you meeting and a club?

To me they serve the same purpose, but one is more organised and structured. Is that the issue?

Not at all Dave, if you want to go on field meets and do that kind of thing you can if not you dont. No-ones going to want access to your land either.

Do you have third party liability insurance?

I guess I've missed the point as usual. The whole point of this this thread was simply a group of chaps getting together for a friendly drink.... we've had good turnouts too - I reckon it will continue.

Shame really that it's become a hard sell.... Dont you think ?

No hard sell Sean I have nothing to gain from anyone joining the BFC. Ask a mod to remove my posts if they offend you, wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

To remove your posts would be pointless... and it's not my thread anyway.

May I simply add that I hope this new BFC group continues to grow and has better luck than the last effort in Shropshire that regretfully dwindled away.
