Hi,
I have a passanger female goshawk since the begining of november , she nearly a year old.
I did all the maining and now she is comming to my fist from 100 to 150 metres , i also use a pigeon to call as a lure .
I vent out trying to hunt crow from a car , but i have a trouble because , she just dont go for it . I read somewhere in this forum that if the bird is to low its a normale thing .
So today i vent out again but with here weight higher , get close to the crow , open the window et let here loose.
She take off but Again she ignored the crow ,and she strart to go away from us , so we just follow up with the car, i was so scared to loose here ,Thanks god i had a pigeon in the car so i tie the pigeon and call her ,she came back , but my adrenaline was killing me .
Now i need your help , what can i do ? how should i work her ? thanks

all i can think of is to give her more crow carcases so she links them to food, also gos' need to be at a lower weight for crows due to the fact they fight back. atb Ed

the problem with passage birds are you dont know what they have done in the wild, she may have never tried them or have tried them and given up, i would give her crow carcases to show her their food and she can catch then then find easy slips! and away you go.

Is bagged quarry legal and ethical in your country as it in America??? if it is that could be your answer if it sets well with your mind.....if not.....go the carcase route.

bagged quarry is basicaly a live animal you through out to your bird so they can chase and maybe catch it. this is illegal in the uk but is legal in the us. Ed

Bagged quarry is released live quarry....in the UK it is illegal, in America it is legal, I believe it is legal in spain and illegal in germany...though I am not sure.
In some countries/ nationalities it is not viewed as cruel or unsporting and is a perfectly acceptable practice......if you are in a country where it is acceptable, legal and you have no moral objections to using them.....that would be one way of introducing this quarry to your hawk. An american member might be able to advice you how to make it look as natural as possible.
Were you in the UK this would not be an acceptable option so you need to check where you are.

Ohh yes its allowed in france , no problem !

in which case a ladder trap ( if they are legal) would supply you with enough crows......and take advice from one of the American members as I believe if you over do it it will equally ruin the hawk as it will expect easy slips......

She must be really calm passage if she is OK with car hawking. We had similar problems with passage birds taken from area where pigeons are 90% of they diet, and most of them refuse pheasants. Couple baggies do the trick. Collecting crow baggies may take some time, so here is what I advice you to do.

Get your self a dead crow, by pellet gun or any other way. Put carcase into refrigerator in standing position. When crow get ice solid, pierce her chest or belly with stick that will work as 3th leg. Place it on the side of the road in natural position, drive by and let the hawk have an easy slipp. She will go for it even if for the sake of curiosity, and one on the ice cream she will discover fresh meat that you have attached on the other side of the crow. Couple lessons and you will have your first wild crow kill. Funy enough if you leave this frozen statue alone for some time, other crows that have spotted it usually come down to investigate.

Have fun.

Why will giving her a moorhen get a passage Gos to take crows from a car... Pete.
it worked for me,i had a similar problem in that a harris i had didnt entertain crow, even when starved and fed it dead.after a few slips on moorhen,he was again fed crow and started taking a liking for it-after a few moore atempts at crow,it all of a sudden clicked and he regularly took crow.
