I've fed my MHH hamster, he certainly seems to enjoy it and its very rich, just gotta watch the weight gain. Tend to only use it when he's in moult or not flying for a few days.

Is this subject to be given a public airing??? Not sure if it would go down well AT all!!!!

There is not a lot of difference nutritionally between the rodents, so I would say it is fine to use whatever is the most cost effective you can get hold of, certaibly as a change to a mainly DOC diet it would be good, but far too expensive for every day, and higher in protein than you want except during the moult or breeding.

yada....yada...yada.....that same ol joke about price comes up again and again. GO SEE YOUR LOCAL UNI. They have lots of surplus animals they need to get rid of. I am still paying £1/kg on rats mice, hamster etc. Cheaper for me to feed rats and mice than it is to feed DOC's.
I feed my birds hamster. they love em.

Used to feed a lot of owls on hamster and they seemed to eviscerate them all , the more varied the diet the better so I'd go for it

I take it Coney Catchers good lady Sue has'nt read this thread yet but she will.
Be afraid all you people who mentioned feeding Guinea Pigs to your birds, I say again BE VERY AFRAID.
Sue Loves her Guinea Pigs.. she's kept them for years.

We feed hamsters, occasionally gerbils, and yes, even guinea pigs... our eagles like them as do our exotic cats. For public talks we usually just say that we feed rodents though!
