Hello people, I'm beginning to research different birds of prey native to north America (preferably Canada) and I was wondering if you could give some tips and opinions on the ferruginous hawk for a beginner. I've heard that the females are similar to red tails. Thanks bye.

ferruginous hawks can be very aggresive pretty birds tho

they don't tend to have feet of a large size like the red, but they are faster when they get going, not too good acceleration from a stand still though.

mate brian just bought one a month ago aka brianm

an aggressive female and very big

she nearly killed her own mate during breeding season i saw the damage she did when i went to the falconry , poor male had bandages round the ankles

so they sold it to brian , he had one before as a beginner

best get some advice of him, very nice birds but massive

females r cool but males are useless if u take emma fords advice :D

LOL, I got Emma fords book too (the Revised Edition) and she doesn't say anything negative towards the Ferruginous buzzard. Are they aggressive because of an imprint, or just to other hawks, or to the owners as well?
1 last favor: any one that has falconry art and practice, turn to page 54 55 56 and 57 and tell me if there's something funny with those pages.

she is slowly gaining fittness, but i have never met a lazier bird ,, she will walk instead of fly if she can,,,,,,, she did have a go at a very small fox cub ,, but it was way to fast off the mark for her ,,, but still it shows she will be up for it

ferruginouss are great i've benn flying a male for 3 years the first week was a nightmere (as wild as they come) but after that he has been a pleasure to fly for the first two seasons i didn't hunt with him, btu my f harris went down for breeding just befor christmas so i gave him a go. wow is not the word he make gosses i know look stupit he will wait on at about 300 ft or so for eva and as soon as the rabbit bolts he's on it and he look 26 rabbits and a phesant between christmas and march and not lost one because of small feet.

i also know a bloke in scotland that hunts grouse with a female in the same way, they are slow off the fist thou they need about 300 meters
to reach top seed which i guess could be a good thing cos you could get some really good long slips in open country, i reckon females could do well on hare the def out pase a harris

Ferrugs tend to spend a lot of their time on the ground. Even if you offer one a perch they often still veg out on the grass, because of this I heard they can be a pain in the arse on the fist. Good on open plains.

Brianm she is stunning!

My friends ferru never sits on the bow perch always on the gravel or grass.
