sold one just recently. Never had any great success hunting it. It was female and flew at 6lb 8. Don't particularly know why but they tend to be biting B******s I think they are better suited to display work as I have never seen one do much in the field. Not in the same class as a male Goldie, although I have heard the Steppe/Goldie hybrid is a lot better than pure Steppe

no i like goldies, just dont see why people go and spoil them by hybridising with a steppe!

Moses, I sold her down South.

The simple answer is £££££ I can't see any other reason.
Going rate for a Goldie is £4500
Going rate for a steppe is £2000
Inseminate a female steppe with goldie and the Hybrid fetches £3000+

yeah but do you really fly an eagle because it can catch a lot of quarry? Although a bit of action must make it much more worth while

If I want to see something big in the air that can't catch suitable quarry I'd fly a kite. If I wanted an eagle for FALCONRY, I'd choose a suitable species of eagle that could and would catch quarry.

Too many eagles are being bought for "big willy syndrome" and being paraded round, without the slightest chance of them ever catching quarry or even hunting - these are ornaments for life and are not FALCONRY EAGLES.

I've no doubt that the right eagle in the right conditions flown at suitable quarry would be a superb bird to own and provide a spectacle that would be hard to beat, but how many are in this country ?
