Nice looking bird whatever.

So what are you going to murder with it

Shaun Byrne
20-06-2005, 10:33 PM
H4wka what a fantastic bird!

Thanks Musket.

Cant take any credit for the looks, its all down to the breeder getting things right.

She's a fiesty one, not for the feint hearted. She's a social imprint and I'm putting her on corvids as soon as she is flying steady and is fit enough.

TheMeanPitBull

Shaun Byrne
20-06-2005, 10:40 PM
Ok, Ok :D

She's a Red Naped Shaheen x Saker

Satisfied :?:

She will be one good looking bird in adult plumage.

Even better with a foot full of black feathers

To be honest I'm not sure yet mate. She is coming well to the lure but is still a bit flappy and unsteady.

She seems to have a faster wing beat than a Saker but only time will tell.

H4wka, why did you not buy a bird of "you know who I mean"?

Ill dig you a pic out of a very good sheen /Saker i flew from Pete Gill called "Bucket"!

I flew her 15 yrs ago for 3 seasons when at a game hawking farm called "Finderlie", fantastic bird and very high mounter, just lacked the bottle in her first season, but made up for it in her second and third

Bucket looked very similar and was tremedously bouyant, but being softer feathered lacked the ability in the stoope to really cut the wind like a peregrine can.

Lovely imprint which is now in geordy land somewhere? love to here from her current owner?

Nice one Shaun, have fun mate!

lovly looker mate but that leash is way long proper neck breaker!!!!
i must admit that im not sure why its red nape ? i have herd they lack bottle and there ploomage is not up to our climate (as mentioned by varmint) also red napes are small and for corvids i would think bigger is better if only for the dispatch of quarry.
i see that peals /altai hybrids are beeing bred a bit more now with kentish and a few others joining the act. this sound one hell of a corvid hybrid . size ,wing load ,plumage ,and agression all combind to make one hell of a bird .
all the same a good looking bird h4wk.
back to the size thing again tho 1.13lb is not much more than a (good) sakeret . do you think she will stablise at this weight or need cutting back a bit more to get realy keen???

all the best matt

Thanks for the leash advice Matt :D

I always extend the leash at bath time to give her a bit more freedom and being a perfectly trained imprint, she doesn't bate anyway :D

No Sakerette I've ever handled has the foot size or power of this baby. I dont think I've trained such an agressive bird before either, she just wants to kill everything, even at top weight, so cant see a problem with black stuff.

Why go for huge falcons to fly at corvids (Game maybe)? They lack the agility and explosive speed of the medium sized birds, IMHO.

Griff,

I'm going to post a pic of mine once the father in law comes back with his digital camera. He's hooding nicely now. Was going to ask what do you use to keep the hood in good condition?

Still no nylon braces yet mate :D

Gareth

GriffMJ

oh S**T...lol...I will get some in the post tomorrow.

Use a baby wipe to keep the hood clean of chick etc make sure that the gape edges are clean and DONT shove hood into hawking bag etc place hood in a hood holster (see ScreamingJay for one) when in the field and keep the hood in a dry place hung on a peg when not in use :)
