Just been having a brouse through the BBC Springwatch message board(got addicted to their peregrine web cam).
Somone has reported a sighting in Cornwall of a White Tailed Sea Eagle.
On my last visit down that neck of the woods none of the Birds of Prey Centres had one.Any Cornish members that can put any light on this would be much appreciated.

In late september you may see golden eagles migrating south as some do, I was led to believe white tailed sea eagles do not migrate this is why they had to be reintroduced by man, as they would not return in time on their own.

perhaps it was captive bred or maybe sombody down there is on seriously hard drugs.

i thought they were all up in western Scotland, would be nice if they started to spread to other parts of the UK coast though

I haven't heard anything about a white tailed sea eagle down here! :o If I do hear or see anything I'll post again. I'll keep my eyes and ears open!

THere has been an immature moving about a bit this summer. There have been sightings of one initially around Norfolk but it moved across West, last sighted in Staffordshire (this was all around Easter time).

About ten years ago a pair were released on Innishvickalaun, an island off Kerry belonging to the former Irish Taoiseach (PM) Charlie Haughey. One of them was shot after a couple of years, but the other hung around West Cork until about two years ago, but hasn't been seen since. Cornwall wouldn't be that far away.

It's amazing what birds turn up in odd places. A few years ago a wild bald eagle landed on the West coast of Ireland before being captured (exhausted) and sent back first class! Also Gyr's are seen every few years off the West coast of south England
