I am looking for a supplier of 392 batteries for Luksander Transmitters.
They must be either Excide or Nycol.
Luksander warn never to use Varta or Renata and I had at least one transmitter fail with the former.
Any Ideas Please ...or must I go to the States???

I use a choice of these 2 for my batteries; the American site is very good but only do Energizer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

starting to sound interesting, my transmiter takes 4 x392. As I use it every day, I change the batts at least once a week. was offered them at £1 each, ie £4 a week!!!! thats more than it costs to feed the birds an ferrets together!!!! thanks to the bunnies

Hello Coedhirion
you could try a fellow called Mick Young (think he is based in colchester)
met him a couple of times at a couple of game fairs and he says send him a sample batt and he'll sort you out . he seemed cheep enough but cant find he's card at the mo but as soon as i do i'll give them to you ,
but you could use his name in a search engine or may be another forum member has used him???
sorry could'nt be more help

Thanks, but Varta batts are cheap and easy to find, but NOT recomended for Luksander (a 'high drain, low drain' thing) The batts have to be reliable at all temperatures too, which is doubtful with varta.

Instead of using 4 392's, could you not get 1 of the bigger lithium type.
I know a guy (Eddie Hare at Groombridge Place), he uses Luksander and when I picked up my 'lost' Saker, he showed me that he bought the bigger lithium type and that it lasted him for months.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might be worth a go.

Hi
I can sell you RENATA 392s for £2 box of 10 - I used to have a Luksander with 3 stage trannie and never had any problems.

I would have no problems with the Varta's I think there was a libel / court case over the claimss they were no good, get them from Micol.

Varta and Renata are deffinitely NOT recomended. Varta stop working when they get cold and I lost my bird for 4 days because of it. He killed in thick forestry and we couldnt find him. The above batts are definitely not high drain as is required for Luksander. I tested my transmitter the other day with 4 varta batts and lost the signal at 1 mile, put in the ones supplied by Luksander and had a signal to 5 miles in real rocky hilly land...good enough evidence for me that Luksander paper work is to be believed ie Dont use them. I have 4 boxes of the darn things too.
Not sure if they do a bigger '392' type, I know they do a '393' as it is used by wild life track. systems. May be worth finding out about as 4 batts in those silly rubber sleaves are real tricky!!!

Hi Coedhirion
you will find 392 & 393 different dimensions both in width, depth & breadth so to speak. can't remmber off hand sizings but will psot them when I find the info on my puter :?

Yup I know they are different size as ferret locator uses 393, which is why I can't use up the boxes of Varta. What I meant was that they make a kind of double length 393, instead of using two,
Instead of using 4 392's, could you not get 1 of the bigger lithium type. so I thought that may be there is a longer one available for 392 size, as S.S. appeared to be saying. Tho I recon if there was Luksander would have said, and not supplied 4 little ones!!
Ahhhh well it looks like I will have to investigate getting them via USA after all.

also known as SR41 - price 76p plus vat. If you do a google search on 392 batteries in the uk, you'll find renata or energizer for around £1.40.

eekkk £1.55 x 4 per week it gets worse!!!

Why 4 per week, whats the designed battery life on the transmitter. I change my batteries often (rt+ uses a 1/3 cr battery, 14 days life, 14 x 24 hours) I'll replace every 3 weeks ( 21 outings x 3 hours only equivalent to nearly 3 days constant use) so still plenty hours left for a safety margin.
Why not put the batteries in the transmitter now and see what duration you get ?

Transmitter holds 4 batts. Duration is 7 days contin Max. Fly from about 9 am till evening (depending on time of year) so min about 5 or 6 hours often a lot more x 7 days. So I could use them for 2 weeks in winter, but like to know I had 3 or 4 days tracking time around here at least as signals dont travel around the valleys well. For a few quid would rather be safe than sorry. If a transmitter falls off it can take a long while to track it down too, it's when the flippin aerial snaps

Will have to go back to Luksander!! Even my local little Welsh jeweler can do standard 392 batts at 30p each with a discount for 10 or more. I get my ferret collar 393 from him too for 40p If I buy a box of 393 plus post it's no cheaper. For Luksander users out there wo are interested I will let you know if I find out any more!!

Buy a transmitter with longer durantion, it will pay for itself in a couple of seasons. The merlin 1/3 cr n battery transmitter lasts for 35 days.

mmm Just bought this brand new one!! I have to have distance more than running time!! around here my 32 mile line of sight can fade at 3/4 of a mile. I get 10 days any way from it. We have 2 other makes of transmitter running on 393 or the double length equiv. and can loose the signal on those in the same distance. One is quoted as around the 30 days but we have yet to test that fact out, as we shall not use it until after the hunting birds come out.

There are more powerful transmitters on the market with greater performance and battery life than the luksander 6volt xlf.
