Do you bother to clean eggs if they are in the nest and get mutes and dirt on them?
And if so how and what is the safest and easiest methods please?

Depends what you mean with dirty, but if they are visible dirty (not just the white smear of mute from when its laid but actually muck or food stuck on the egg) and its an imprint, yes I do, I use water the same temp as the egg and a small amount of F 10 and gently clean it off.
Is it not more a quick rub and ohh my god I wished I never bothered the males just came in and cracked two eggs while I was ****ing about!! :yawinkle: Alf.

Not that I have any experience with this but remember eggs are porous - whatever chemicals you use on the outside can be drawn into the egg especially if using warm water and affect the embryo.

I wouldn't do it I can't think of any way of cleaning them without removing the cuticle which is natures way of protecting the egg. Certainly no more than I can flick off with my nail. My Luggers are disgusting in the way they sit eggs You would want to clean them before throwing in a dirty dustbin - but they always hatch under her, the eggs in the same dirt state in an incubator would be dead for sure.

I had a very messy Lanner and used to scrape them gently with a small sharp knife.

if any of you NATURALLY left lanners eggs youd find youd have to clean them ,theyre the dirtiest falcon for ****tin on there eggs ,half way thru incubation or maybe 20 days i go in and box the parents ,clean eggs with WARM waterand tissue ,i know whats been said here infect blah blah ect lol,but any fertile egg ive cleaned has never died ect they always hatch ,if id left them they wouldnt they disgusting sometimes,i change the nest area aswell at same time , make new scrape put eggs back ,keep unfertile ones out ,let parents go and no problenm, my birds arent much bothered when i do it ,they no its going to happen and i done it last week and neither bird uttered a scream it was if to say oh go on get on with it ,so my answer hawkmaster is yes i always clean the eggs once:supz::supz:[most folk dont bother cos most use incubators]salty;)
