To the breeding experts here. I have a 'natural' pair of peregrines that have bred successfully, and been recycled, for the last 5+ years. This year they were moved to new accommodation, and have laid their first clutch, but 3 weeks later than previous years.
My question is, does this unusually late laying mean that pulling the first clutch will give a low chance of recycling? They are quite old at 13 years.
Many thanks in advance for any information. matt

If i were u..
I would be happy they bred this year
13 is a good age for a peregrine, & some shut down at 12-15yrs
If you make the wrong choice, your going to have a lot of Imprints to rear!
I would not want second clutch birds from a pair that old.

I would agree that the time of year combined with the age of the birds would conspire against a second clutch.

My guess is she will recycle but I would be worried that the male is still in condition to cover her . Once it gets into May with hat males you have to work hard to keep them in condition and once she finished laying he will have gone out and then to expect him to come back into it is expecting a lot.

Many thanks for your thoughts... I'll let you know how we get on if we do decide to try the recycle. Many different opinions offline too...!
