You need to take the falconry exam. And you also need to take a Hunter Safty Course in order to get a hunting permit.

Join the California hawking club and they will let you know the details. You need to find a sponsor to apprentice under for two years minimum. The minimum age is 14 so you will have to wait to start and at that age, you will have to be an apprentice until you are 18 years of age before upgrading to a general class falconer. You must study for a test that must be passed with a minimum of 80% on all aspects of birds of prey and their care. After that, you must build and aquire all the facilities and equipment and be inspected by a game warden before receiving your license to trap you first bird from the wild. You cannot buy them until you are a general class falconer.
