Jastreb
09-07-2005, 01:13 PM
Yo boys, and girls!
I already told you that I am making one test!
Here is my tiercel gos Tom.
I picked him yesterday from my friend. He imprinted Tom for me, and another friend imprinted female gos from my breed for him.
They are bouth briliant imprints. We did that because we want to test will they screaming or not.
He is 640 grams at the moment and I start training. He don't bate, and it is very very tame.
Cheers Jastreb

jestrab is tom a gos taken from a wild pairs eyrie them imprinted or is he captive bred ?
also how much money do goss and spars fetch in croatia ?

dont worry about the rain you are having over there its red hot here. im manning up a sakeret for a friend and its making things quite difficult because of the heat the bird has little or no intrest in the food he is offerd by the time he is intrested ( well after dark in ) im tired and have little patance for him . im preying for some rain to sharpen him up so we can start to move in the right direction.
all the best matt

No, he is my breed, I have imprint female, you can finde post here on the forum if I remember in imprint section imprint section. It is illegal to take birds from wilde only if you are part of Raptor rescue team then you can have some injured bird to take her back in condition and return in the wilde!
Price for male gos is from 700-900 euro, and for female gos from 1000-1300 euro.
Sparrow hawk is from 200-350 euro.

Advice please:
Tom start to refuse emidiate flights to the lure, he maybe fly once and then he is just sitting and watching, but he starts to fly on the fist very fast and in the few secs. My worrie is what will happen when he will be on the very high top of the tree. He was imprinted on the lure, and my female always comes back on the lure from any distance.

Too high in weight, if not corrected soon it will become a problem later, one big mistake when imprtinting is to hunt with the hawk before any obedience,

Tim Laycock

I agree. as with a parent reared obedience is paramount in Goshawks.
A gos will not become fist/lure bound in the same way as a buteo.
When they are obedient to recalls they can soon be "switched on"
(You probably know this already Jastreb :D )
Posted purely for information only m8

Hmm..what about explaining this/expanding on it in the training pr gos thread dude,....you star you :!: :finga:

Tim Laycock
02-08-2005, 05:05 PM
Dont think there is much to explain really Gaz.
Infact I have never come across a Goshawk that required much switching on.
what I tend to do is get the obedience sorted somewhere where there is no game to be had as such(I find sports fields and the surrounding areas where people walk dogs ideal)
When the bird is obedient it will be well on its way to being muscled up and pretty much developing a switched on attitude because of this.
As far as the final switching on goes, I have never flushed game close to a Goshawk that was obedient to the fist without it switching itself on

Im sure In not telling you anything new Gaz  8)

Jastreb

They were from 620-700 grams, flying weights. It is not important how often do they feed them, it is important what was their food when their were not flying
Only feeding on whole dead hares or hare lure, it works believe me, but you can have much easier job if you get female :D !

flying at 1-7, 1-8 what are they hunting at (p/r ?).

SakerYZF
23-08-2005, 11:55 PM
Well the they where both imprints, but going from the PR's from last year there's only an ounce or so in it.. i'd be suprised if mine flies at 1-8, im thinking 1-5 1-6? which i guess is nothing to write home about:P

OutFlying
24-08-2005, 12:30 AM
That's what I thought, never heard of a p/r 100 % german flying at much above 1-6, and this is the final hunting weight not first season initial hunting weight. Whilst it doesn't matter really I find it more relevant to quote type of rearing and exact cross of goshawk to determine approx condition / weights.
A friend of mine bred 1/4 finnish males and they came out the aviary at 1-15 and flew at 1-9 ish first season totally parent reared and hatched.

Hi,
so how is his screaming and mantling? Is he any different from a bird Imp by you?

Thx

Moritz

Jastreb
25-09-2005, 08:22 PM
Ok, one information for Imprint fans!
If you want to have non screaming full imprint, someone else must imprint your gos. Then he must enter him, and he must fly him at least two months from the day when he starts to fly(eg. he is hatch in April, then imprinted, and you can take him at August). If you after that take a bird, you will have non screming imprint, but he will start mantling and thats ok for me, well someone hier already said "Thats his ***cin game..." and thats ok!
But if you take him withouth two months of flying by another pearson, he will scream like in case that you imprint him!
You will need week or two, that he accept you, and then you will have full non screaming imprint!
If you have shity neigborhs, thats the way!
WELL YOU MUST HAVE REALLY GOOD FRIEND AND FALCONER FOR DOING THIS KIND OF JOB!
Cheers Jastreb
