Does anyone know of anybody who breeds hybrids
of these,

Harris,
Redtails,
Ferruginous,

Not intending to purchase this year, but want to be well prepared for next,
ie placing order, payment, etc.

So, who does what, where ( County ) and what ballpark price range, Please.

Nobody ?.

Now that is interesting,

So, what of all this talk denigrating hybrid hawks,
what of all the 'Why do it', and 'What for' questions,
what of all that waffle about 'Purity of type / species',

If nobody is actually doing it, why get their knickers in a twist ?

or is it just another load of meaningless hot air being spouted
by people who know no better ?.

So, if I've got this right,

You risk invoking Armageddon if you dare produce a
hybrid hawk, Accipiter or Buzzard, because they are
already at the peak of perfection.

But,

It's fine to produce a hybrid falcon, because we all
know that the Gyrfalcon and Peregrine are imperfect,
Right ??.

Oh, never mind......

Back to my question, anyone breed them ?

what i meant is that ppl make a lot of fuss about them but the number bred is insegnificantly low. makes no differnece to me if it is hawk x buzzard or flacon cross flacon for all i care they can do duck x hh if it makes them more water proof

Wouldn't the webbed feet be an issue?

Never mind the webbed feet, how would it eat game with a bill like that ?

I suppose a Goshawk x Old English game fighting cock would be interesting,

mad as a hawk and ready to tackle anything, plus feed is easy, just a handful

of corn, easy.

But I only asked if there were any breeders, I didn't murder anyone, honest.

There was a chap selling a feru x red not long back. He wanted a £1000 for it. Im not sure but I thought I knew who it was as I know a chap who owns one. Dont know who bred it but it hadnt flown for a while, he took it out, did some work with it and it was taking hares. I cant give any more info than this, but the advert might still be on bird mart with his No and he could give u a little more info.

Thanks Gary, I'll take a look.

I confess that I'm more than a little wary of buying off Birdtrader,
as many of the ads seem to be placed by 'bird owners' rather than
by falconers.

That is why I asked on forum, hoping for someone who had been
recommended by a respected, experienced falconer.

By seeking out a breeder I would hope to avoid the risk of someone
'flogging off' a stolen bird.

may you burn in eternal damnation!! Maybe people are to scared to own up to breeding them?!! Its a shame coz i wouldnt of minded seeing what prices are. Ive always fancied a harlans x harris myself. Cant believe I admitted that, just waiting for the hybrid police to strike me down with lightening now!!!!

Get ready for the electric probes, you WILL justify yourself !

Prepare to be asked why you would ruin a perfectly good bird,
( As if you had taken a living bop and disfigured it somehow )

What for ? Why ? You know you are not permitted to be different !

The hell with it, one crack at life, try everything you possibly can,
no justification, no excuses - It's your life and your business.

pmsl ! Could I justify it by saying it would help 'winterise' a HH ?!!! Best pack my bags now ready to leave the country under the cover of darkness!!!

Any way you choose if just fine, how about;-

Because I can.
Because I want to.
Because it's my cash to spend how I like.

Or you could just tell them to wind their trunk in.

Hope you get whatever you like and it gives you years of pleasure. :-D

lol, hopefully it will be a while off yet as the HH should have a plenty of seasons left in her!

Joking apart lads, didnt some american fella hybridise a male coopers with a female harris?, i read about it some time ago,the bird produced was called a coopharri I think, the thought being to get the killing reptile of a coopers built in with the manageability of the harris...Nick/

That's a new one on me Nick, it's a bit like the Harris x Gos,
Buteo into an accipiter, I don't know about that, it might be possible.

That would really bring the hybrid police down about your ears, hope you've
got a hard hat.

I would like to make a list of all the various combinations that have been
tried, and what kind of results they got. Just as a matter of interest.

Plantbreeder, re the coopharri, it is true mate, its not a wind up,the article was in a north american falconers magazine or similar, I didnt read the april 1st issue either. As I recall the bird wasnt a particular success,.

I understand that the Gos x Harris did not survive very long either, perhaps
it was just that little bit too big a bridge to cross, who knows.

So far, the Black Spar x Gos seem to be fine, although that is not too far
across species, some of my books refer to it as a Black Gos, rather than a
Spar. I wish those guys every possible success.

Although many falcons have been crossed, we hear little of accipiter crosses, but there are quite a few to choose from, and maybe in the future some very skilled breeders will try others. It's no easy task, and one that I
would not venture to try, although I might be interested in flying the birds
they produced.

Interesting,
I note that the hybrid on the scales was a fair bit heavier than the Harris.
Other point was that it was not so easy to train, I have heard people here
that criticise the Harris for being too easy, saying that it teaches the new
falconer little.
