Sheesh!! Far be it from me to convey the impression I actually knew what I was doing!! I got conned into it after a few Jack Daniels and ended up in the team. It was really great though.....You just ask what the hell you're supposed to hit, then whack the cheese at it!! They cheer and buy you a drink if you get it right...and everyone glares at you if you get it wrong. You wouldn't believe how competitive skittle teams get. Most of them got dumped because they took up too much space...sad really. At the end of the evening the 'host' pub always provided supper for the players.
Nope...you need a better mentor than me. Some old boy in the pub will put you right.
I never particularly knew what I was doing in the darts and snooker teams either.:yawinkle:

A thought...

We should start a thread about this or perhaps submit a book... Shropshire has had its share of famous Falconers both past and present. Indeed I have been lucky enough to spend time with some. We've had Hollinshead and Smith, Stevens and Faithfull trudging the soft soil of Salop countryside... Complete with hawk in hand and game in the bag.

But the pinnacle of my hawking has to be a day with Mr V, Shropshires very own living legend. Hope you can make it Mike :) :)

I reckon I'm one of the privaliged few :)

Redtails are fantastic birds and you will find plenty of lads on monday round here who flew them for many years incl me. Still got a few holes in my head to prove it!!

well how do i start ?? first of all i would like to thank sean white for organising the event my hat off to you m8 ;) then all the folks that turned up and made it a great nite :supz: thanks to martin holinshead for taking time out to do his slide show and talk and for answering many questions that were fired his way :supz: great to meet all the guys ive chatted to over the years but never met and putting a face to a name ??? jayhawk,shaun bannister,steve (crosshawk) carl (gamehawker) along with zxbravo and the other lads i traveled up with cheers nigel for driving top man ,great curry afterwards even if alans (arb) chicken was as pink as pink could be and took a few minutes for him to get over the colour and took in lol once again thanks to everyone for making it a great nite :supz: and forgot to add BEN C WHAT HAPPEND TO YOU LOL

Alan.

It was mainly focused on Hare hawking with Eagles( brown not blue) although alot of Harris/Gos thrown in for good measure. Martin's slides show the sport the way it is.... and highlights the fact that Eagle and Hare are well suited weightwise, and stressed the fact that Harris/Gos/Red need nurturing before tackling such quarry.

We had a count of around 27 ish including a few guests..... I got the pub for free, we have no committee and no overheads and no-one creaming or claiming club funds..... The way it should be :) I reckon the pub made more than anyone ha.

What did I take ? Nowt.
A pint glass with a load of coins and notes paid his costs..... Ask him how much he made lol.
