A friend of mine has a female so i bought a male and his little boy will man him up a have a little fly with him. Then put them in for breeding. And they still have three left.

Funny little birds, act dead aggressive in/around the mews but actually very nervous. I flew 2 a number yof ears ago, ok to fly when close to but over long distances in the open they feel very vulnerable and either won't fly or fly into bushes for cover.
i think owls are absolutely bang on, i wish i had more time,my daughter is going mad for a couple, but i know i would just over stretch my self and over commit so for now it's just sit back and be envious of pics like these of bob...........little cracker mate.

He is two months old. But yes i will try to breed them next time around. Not sure how old they got to be tho. I have been told the smaller the bird the younger they breed. I breed two Kestels this year and the male was not even one so who no's.

I had an imprint that bred in it's first year with a wild injured female so they will breed early.

Very cute :)
How much does he eat?
I notice you have a whole DOC on the glove - will he eat all that? Boobook, if you give her a complete chick (minus yolk), will eat all the best bits and leave the spine and the skin. So we chop up the DOCs for her into 3 then she'll eat it all.
Maybe we're being too soft?
What a beautiful owl, those eyes are just wonderful.
thanks for the pictures.

Lee What else do you feed Bob?
I know you stated 1 DOC (day old chick) in the morning and a mouse in the evening, but what else insect wise I was thinking thats if you plan to feed them at all?. Do you or will you feed vitamins as well if so which ones?
Many thanks.
Meant to add great pics of this lovely native species - My Mum loves this breed along with her other fave the Great Gray talk about opposite ends of the spectrum  Atleast the Little Owl is more affordable :P
