Hiya,
How do people clean their gloves? What gloves have you got? What do you use to clean them?
I have a martin jones double, dead easy to clean, put under warm water then get a scouring pad and tooth brush and there u go! To dry it, keep it in a warmish room, let it dry naturally and try and put on your hand, move it and flex it so it fits even better to your hand.
The czec double is a wipe-clean one, or warm water and tooth brush. I put the ben long grease on afterwards
Kangaroo double is harder so it has to be soaked for 5 mins in hot water then scour, then wash off in warm water, scrub again, cool water. That can be dried with a hair dryer. Dont use grease with this one, just when you first use it, then it has to be ko-cho-line etc.
The ben long single I sold, was a warm water soak for 2 mins then dry with a hair dryer, mould onto hand, then grease with ko-cho-line.
I simply sratch the blood etc from the glove with a knife and after that I grease it.I do this after every use.I dont use water coz its harden the glove and the bird cannot sit comfortable...
thats my version...
regards,
Dan :)

hiya,
if u flex it and use the right grease, it feels and looks good as new! does depend how you dry it also, in cold room or warm room, or how long u let it dry. I let the MJ double dry for 3 days, 4 if I got the spare ready for the go lol.

Are there other greases other than ko-cho-line that people use?
I was just wondering as I have heard people complaining about staining the leather (and your hands ;) ).
I've been helping out manning some birds lately and guess what - the glove is now nicely covered in blood/yolk from DOCs.
I clean it off with warm water and a cloth, but I have noticed it is a bit stiffer and I'd also like to keep it nice and supple with treatment.
What about treatments used on say motorcycle jackets? are they suitable.
Also, how often do folks clean their gloves, do you treat them "regularly", or just when they get all manky and 'orrible?

If you don't want to use Ko Cho Line you could always use Fiebings Aussie Leathe Conditioner; this is neautral in colour..................pm me if you want any

Hey Adam, try using beeswax. It makes the leather really supple and treats leather like a treat so to speak!
My older glove went like what you are describing and i used beeswax and it softened the glove back to the way it was (not fully though)

soke it first in warm water, but not for too long, dry it out, and apply beeswax to the glove whilst you are wearing it.

I have a few Falcon Crst gloves; I tend to put it on, and over the sink, with warm water and F10sc, scrub the glove clean, wring it out and if the suns shining, put it over the gate to dry out naturally. Every so often, I put it on and wriggle my pinkies about; once dry, give a good spray of F10, then once dry again, treat with either Ko Cho line or Fiebings, sometimes both.
My main glove, I've used for over 3 years.

Fling them in the washing m/c, let them dry, then give then a quick scoot with vydephor/f10, (not a leather bag obviously!!)

i have ben long, martin jones and falconcrest gloves......when they get to the state were they need a good cleaning i wash them in luke warm water NO DETERGENT and then rub in some fabric softener.
i then let them dry out slowely and as they are doing so treat them with a good leather balm such as effax that contains lanolin and vocado oil.
only ever had one go hard on me doing this and have had the same gloves for years.
Never use cho'ko line its too sticky and doesnt sok into the leather.
thats my way anyhow.

Ben long ( the most boring man in falconry) does really good leather conditioner for Jesse's and gloves.
It is beeswax based and absorbs well.
I used this gear on a new falcon glove.
The glove had that brushed suede feel to the outside and if i used Kcholine on it i would have ruined it.
However Ben longs gear soaked into the glove and retained that suede feel with out making it go all shiny and gungy.
For washing i use neat water and then spray with a antibacterial.

Try using Philip Glazier's jess grease recipe in his book, it very good, similar to Ben Longs, but a lot cheaper.

Once the glove has done a couple of seasons, I bin them as you can't seem to get the inside of them clean and the dermatitis starts to play up but at £20 for Doug Pineo glove its no great expense.

What do you use to clean them?
A brass wire brush and almost boiling water is all thats required :D
