Hi All
I am a little concerned as in the past week my 13 week old euorpean eagle owl has lost one new wing feather and one new tail feather. But other than this she is in great condition and looks fabulous.
Is this very common? I am a little concerned about feather mites but cannot see any thing. Would I be able to? How can it be treated?
Is this a trip to the vet.
Any information gratefully received.
Thanks
Emma

I have heard of european eagle owls to just drop or lose in blood feathers before. Is there damage to the feathers or did they just drop?

Is there another feather shaft visible where they dropped from?

My first year male Harris has moulted one of his new tail feathers too. It was only half length but NOT in the blood. All the other new ones look fine and he has no where he can damage any. I was told it does happen some times and that as it was moulted clean, a new feather will be coming through and so not to panic.... Hope the expert is correct. He is fit well and his food is varied ie rabbit, rat, quail, chic etc. none of the new full grown tail feathers have fret marks either.???

Hi
No she doesn't hit herself against anything, she's rather lazy and just perches for most of the day. The biggest exersion she does is have a bath!!!
Both the feathers were totally clean, no blood, just dropped out. You can still see the shaft on the feather from the wing but not the tail.
It doesn't seem to have affected her flight either she still looks very comfortable.
Thanks
