Failing Mongolian quail , the next best thing are bats caught from the caves below King Solomon's throne in the enchanted Koh-e-Suleman mountains. These bats must be caught at least a fortnight after the monsoon clouds have emptied their goodness upon the land, and the fields are full of green leaves and newly hatched insects. for then they will be at their fattest.

Also shield your bird from those given to the vices of drinking, gambling, late rising and womanising, for surely neither you nor your feathered charge stand to gain anything from such devious men.

More importantly, avoid these vices yourself, and seek pleasure not in their pursuit, but in the service of your hawk, and never feed her with hands tainted with the vile smell of alcohol and tobacco. Lest you may cause her discomfort, and she may look upon your arrival with displeasure.

If you cannot avoid the vices, this scribe has ever so humbly mentioned above, then debase not this sport of kings, but rather free your charge so that she may prey at will, and restrict yourself to admiring these nobles of the sky from a distance.

Guys, I wrote that in a jest because I personally know Shikra, he is a very good friend of mine. Actually I would not have written it, had Black bird not insisted to hear from an expert. And contray to what some might think, I did need to smoke up to write that, Im quite kwacked without it.

I'd say that a diet of pigeon should give a fast clean moult. You need a good high quality protein source to allow for feather growth.

Pigeon supplemented with sparrows, wild quail and field rats is the best diet for a moulting bird. Carrion and trash eaters like crows, mynahs and starlings are best avoided.

One thing more i would like to ask that what r the advantages an disadvantages, Feeding washed meat?

Tim Laycock
24-07-2005, 07:56 PM
Advantage-Good way of stripping weight off a bird without starving it.

Disadvantages-Not to be used for small hawks, not to be used for calling off. most hawks find it distastefull.
