Just wondering if anyone knows anything about red kites?

Red kites do do (lol) a lot of scavenging. They are spectacular to watch in flight. As to their temperment, a bird is its own is what i believe. One kite may be extremely timid, the other may be extremely bad tempermented, just like any other bird. It really depends on how much time you are willing to put into manning the bird and getting to know it as well as it getting to know you.
I dont know anyone who has a RK but JPJ had a few i believe. I know someone who has a Black Kite, and of who's temperment was good natured.

I flew some red kites & black kites last year on a course, they are very acrobatic ie firing food up in the air with a catapult.

From what I have heard, several people have tried them and found them all but impossible to fly. the black kite I gather is OK. Black mountain falconry are getting, or have got some, but to do what I'm not sure. the only people i know of, who tried to fly them, gave up. Some one else has taken one on, but only time will tell. Ray Alika 'ye olde red tails' tried and failed i think, an he can get most birds to do at least a show !!!

Gauntley birds of prey use red kites & black kites for disply flying & they have hybrid red/black kites as well.

I saw a Red Kite take a hot dog straight out of some one's hand once. At the falconry centre in Northhampton. The man did not find it funny at all but the rest of the crowd did.  But Mike who was doing the display told everone to put there food away so it was his own fault. And the cheeky so in so asked Mike for the money to by anuther one..
