Garlands are the only ones, but watch this space I am sure they will be immitated as Garlands do not give the service everyone wants, I think some person will do them.

I also want them.

I've got a mate doing them himself with stainless steel car aeriel and teflon tape, looks more professional then it sounds!! Has to buy in the tape from the States tho'.

hmmmm .... I can make them ....but they wont look as good as the marshal one..... it would be made from modellers plastic (the correct guage) and I would mount a brass tailmount into it. If anyone knows where I can get teflon ribbon from then let me know. I have the dimensions & shape for the backpack I just need that ribbon :)

I've been in contact with the teflon suppliers in the states. Screaming J has got the details, I sent them to him a while back.
If memory seves me right it works out @ $7.25 per m, minimum order 25m
Hope that helps...........................again

Ballyribbon mills or something like that do the tape in the states, you need to but 10m or more, and you'll get caught for tax by customs unless you can get a freind in the States to ship it to you.

ok...... I will make my version this week.... I need to buy the plastice for it and I will start it . SS has given me the rest of the ingrediants so i should have something by the weekend.

Micheal : I would appreciate a close up digital photo with a ruler next to the one you got from Garlands :)

It is also curved, might be better looking at one in the flesh......

I have noticed the curve..... the best thing about the plastic I am using is that it will mould with a touch of heat.... so I will get a faithful reproduction....

Hi Brian

Well .....lets see how we get on first. I will make a couple for testing.... I want to make sure that what ever I make is sound and will do the job and above all be safe for both falcon and telemetry. Marshal started out with a leather mount .... and I still have that pattern..... so the plastic mount will have to be of a durable and flexible type that will withstand freezing and be strong enough. Give me a bit of time to get it together and I will post up as soon as I have done :)

I think I will make the first ones from "Traffic Cone" plastic ....as this has all the tough properties that we need :)

NB: Whatever I make..... cant come with the same guarantee as Marshal....as i am sure you will appreciate, but I hope I can make an alternative that is cost effective ...and just as effective :)

£35 pounds for a mount that will last the life the life of the hawk, doesn't sound expensive to me. Ribbon replaced every 2 or 3 seasons. Short sightedness seems to be common when equipping a hawk, but if you lost it the cost will never be really recovered.

I have the micro version. Should be fitted tonight.

looks really easy to do i was waiting for my mate to come over and do the two imprints together have you used the micro transmitter are they good for both gos and falcons ?

OutFlying

A friend has used the old style micro with half length aerial on his barbary and merlins to good effect. A couple of long range tracking outings last season after crows mobbed the barbary. Tracked it down 5 miles away in very hilly terrain. The new version of micro has the short aerial as standard and is more powerful, I bought one 2 weeks ago but haven't used it yet - tailmount or back pack only version, been using an old micro on the leg until this evening. The new micro is more powerful than the original RT transmitter so should have plenty of range.

fitted backpacks to two female imprint peregrines today no need to cast really easy, first one took a while learing curve! second one took no time at all just waiting for the glues a pain both falcons stood excellent and accepted them no probem i would imagine fitting to a cast bird would be quite hard? how did the spar get on jim?

The fit wasn't right after preening in - too loose. Cut it off and now waiting for some more ribbon.
