hi peeps well for those that know i took on a male harris earlier this year just b4 moult i thought i would let you know the progress made
yesterday now that he is almost out of moult he decided he wanted to hop from his bow perch to my fist so i thought today i would put him on his creance line and get him flying for his lunch well i have to say as i was getting his line tied to his swivel i didnt hold too much hope for him to respond too much but i was very very suprised and to say the least chuffed to bits i placed him on his perch and un ravelled about 10 ft of his creance and walked away , crouched down and called him with a bit of chick on the glove after a second or two he thought okay and flew straight over damn was i pleased..
i put him back on his perch and tried again at abbout 15 ft Yupps you guessed it he came straight Over :D:D
i kept this going till he'd had about 3 chicks and was flying over 20 ft after which he just wouldnt move so ended the training there for the day with peabs with a full crop and contented and me a very pleased bunny
will try and add more over the next week to let you know his progress
very good!!! well done. it is a real heart soaring factor when things go so right. look forward to hearing more.

Well out he came today onto the scales 1lb 6 so out we go again creance attached and placed ontop of the rose arbour a nice high perch for him i walk off 25-30ft and place a piece of chick onto the glove and call him tail wags head bobs and here he comes :D:D:D i place him back on the arbour and go again same quick response and to say i am happy is an understatement he did it again today flew to me consistently over the duration of about three chicks but towards the end he was taking a little longer each time so i left it at that with him tethered on his perch. more to come :D:D

We will see what we can do as our camera is ok for still shots but a bit of hit and miss when it comes to action shots(really need a new one ). I,m equally happy that peebs is showing so much enthusiasm in his training, he is such a pleasure to watch fly :D

sorry guys and gals i kow it has been a while since the last post but didnt want to bore you with the same ole same ole stuff yesterday though peables suprised us no end he has gone from15-20ft - 30 now he flies the length of the garden with ease and agility which is around 70- 80ft and not just the odd once or twice but always till food almost gone i save the last pieces to bring him in and offer up once i have tethered him :D.
the reason i post today rather than over last few is when my better half went to get him in as i was getting sorted to go to work she saw he had untied 2 falconers knots and just sat on his perch with his leash posted through the ring of the bowperch :S to say i S**t myself is an understatment but in my favour the lil guy hadnt moved off his perch ( full crop maybe being the deciding factor but that was a scare i could have lived without
more to come as and when :D hoping to move onto bunny traing very soon

yep....had that a few weeks ago, went to the encloser & there he was sitting on his perch wagging his tail at me & then i noticed he had undone 2 falconer knots....**** i thought as well.opened the door slowly & slipped in & he jumped onto my fist, i now tie 2 falconers knots & a normal 1 as well

Well i was stunned to see the knots undone as i approached him ,i was panicking he was gonna bait as i got there but i just moved in slowly and he looked at me as if to say "look what i done mum" i bent down and he casually hopped on the fist as if nothing was wrong. he is now gonna have a normal one like darren said. Well today was the day a ot of people dread during bird training letting em off the creance and fly em free well i went through the usual actions of weighing him spot on his weights of late @1lb6.5 and out into the garden i know a cowardly way to let him take his first free flight but was really nervous.... up to the rose arbour he headed and sat there patiently watch me to see if i had his titbits lol onto the glove goes a bit of chick and withing seconds the lil gem is heading straight for me first couple of attempts he is trying to grab the food and run but misses and finally realises that he needs to land and at last 3rd pass he does so. step one of my fear gone now to see if he keeps it up and for sure he did he kept flying the length of the garden and back without hesitation till he looked like he almost had a full crop so i thoughht back on with furniture and will tether him to his perch with some more food to fill his crop...
hope this hasnt bored you but to say i am chuffed to bits is a major understatement indeed more to come in the future

hi ukjay glad to hear your birds free ,you might have to take that 1/2 oz off him if he snatchs the food that will also give him that hunting edge
