Hi, i've just finished cutting the dye to produce these tail mounts, i know other places sell them but i think they're pretty extorsionate at. 3.99 each so i bit the bullet and cut a dye to machine them in our workshop. if i could ask you for a bit of feedback on them before i make the first 100. i'm looking at selling these for around 2.50. thanks for your help.

I use a guitar plectrum, cable ties and a brass tail mount holder which i glue/cable tie to the plectrum. Done.

in the old days i used allsorts, tupperware lids cut out, leather plectrums, guitar picks, i got sick of the bell falling through the deck feathers and these seem to fall through alot less. are you saing there not worth £2.50?

No, £2.50 seems like a good deal. Will it be possible to attach a bell to it?

Thanks mate, my goal is to make all equipment affordable, if i can carry on with low manufacturing costs and still produce top quality, i'm happy and hopefully so is everyone else. i remember paying over the odds when i first got into falconry and it smacks a little to the newbie.

Oh I see. It looks good. Would you make different sizes depending on the bird?

yeah eventually, but it takes a while to tool up for making dyes so i went for the most popular size but these are suitable for HH, pere or similar and bigger

very good and a good price, just abit of input if you dont mind the little wings that are on it would worry me if your bird is inclinde to crash in to cover for obvious reasons. Also it has to be long enough so as the tellem spring clip dosent get fowld by the leather that attaches the bell. hope you dont mind a bit of input atb KEV.

thank you, your comments are noted, i think these wings are no more a hazard in undergrowth than the actual bell or transmitter. and are there just to stop the whole thing falling through the deck feathers. i dont see any reason why in the future i cant make them without the wings for those who prefer. please see picture. its not possible to make a couple because its expensive to tool up to make the mould. if these prove to be popular then i will make a smaller version. i can perhaps hand make a couple of smaller ones for you but they wouldn't be injection moulded. i'm happy to do that if you want.

Without seeing one in my hand I would have mounted the transmitter mount a bit higher so that the body of the transmitter was on the mount. If it helps, if you send me one (I'll pay for it!) I'll put it on a display bird where it gets hard daily work and give you some feedback??

I will certainly do that cheers, i start a run of them next week whe the di is fitted to the injection moulder. the reason its set at that hieght though is to give enough clearence for the bell, but i'll get one off to you and get some feedback from you,

i like the idea, but i havent had any hair since the 80's LOL,

i like the concave idea i would have to find a way of making it fit a variety of birds though, i made one for a friend with a goldie, but they are also used on a male harris. perhaps i could work on something a little more flexible.

Cheers for your thoughts though mark.

Looks nice mate. But lose those wings at the bottom. They seem like they will interfere with the feathers adjacent to the decks. (If it falls through your bird has broken deck feathers ) BTW, small cable ties with a bit of epoxy works better than leather bewits these days.

they're 55mm wide so they sit on top of the tail feathers without falling through, but not too big as to get in the way or be uncomfortable, i've used this design for years, i've cut them out of allsorts in the past. i will be making them for smaller birds in the near future.

I have used an almost identical pattren for years without any problem. However a few years ago I removed the "wings" and to be fair it made little or no difference to the performance of the mount.

yes mate i agree as i think you get a closer fit to the deck's than with a bewit, so slightly less chance of anything getting snagged under this mount or plectrum ,tupperware or whatever is used

if you have different methods of fitting them thats cool, i'm slightly old fashion, a bewitt lets the bell sit slightly more relaxed to give its full volume, but ive never had any problems with this shape falling through tail feathers. the wings really do prevent that. ATB Ray

Used a similar one for a couple of seasons, they are a pain in the arse, they flip up when the hawks flying so the tx ariel is like a flag mast sticking up in the air, asking to be wrapped around something.

The tx mount wants to be higher, and you could cut off the rest from where your tx mount is now.

I know lots make and use these but you did ask for opinions.

Here's an idea - you could make a 2 transmitter backpack mount. Nobody is marketing one right now and there is a market for them.

I would have thought those that use 2 would prefer to have them in different locations, i.e tailmount and backpak,

trouble is if it 'drops off' (highly unlikely, but **** happens) you've lost your bird :( atb Jakk

Yes sean i could trim them to suit, but they proved so popular at the festival and from web sales i'm currently cutting a dye to make smaller ones. should have the first 100 done in a week or so.
