Day One - she has arrived. She is more beautiful than we remember. Whilst still not entirely happy she has so far made various bids for freedom, tried to take her anklets off and also her tail bell oh yeah and upset a few seagulls.
She has been sitting on Simon's fist, regains it herself after bating and will let either of us touch her front. We have taken a couple of photos and here they are (hopefully!)

Lovely Bird you have there and sounds like she is going to do well in the manning side of things.
"Ellie" is a nice name for a female anything, if your asking for suggestions.
Good luck with Her.
Albie..

Day 2 and she weighed in on our scales at 1lb 14oz. She's extremely interested in the food on the glove but just isn't happy enough to bend for it. She seems happy all round with everything else though - even our 2 year old running around the garden, but not too close!!
Adam, Simon didn't ask what the mother was flying at. She was the smaller of the two females so maybe his others are a bit heavier?

In reply to comments above - she seems to sit a bit better on her perch now and doesn't look as awkward but we are going to make it a bit wider - we hadn't realised just how big her feet were!!!
I wont be ready in 7 days but Simon will - he appears to be a total natural and she seems more at ease with him!!

Erm nope. The only one that's come up with anything is our daughter who insists on calling her Hiya so we were thinking Aiya but Simon's not sure he could wander around calling her!! :-)

Day 3 (yesterday) Simon sat with her for an hour or so whilst his parents were here. When they left he took out a chick and before he'd had chance to really move much, she was eating. What an amazing sight, just couldn't believe it.
He gave her a break whilst we had tea and then spent some more time with her and got her to step to the fist for another chick - I wasn't there but he said it was a couple of inches away from a jump!!!
She weighed 1lb13 yesterday morning and 1lb14˝oz this morning (but not cast pellet yet). All is going really well so far and couldn't be more chuffed!! :D

Glad to here her progress is coming on a treat for you. Probably be 1-13+3/4 to 1-14 when she cast... She'll probably jump today for you if not this morning then later on when she has lost a bit more weight...

nice looking harris, but from the looks of your first pic, may need a wider bow perch! :DI agree, it looks as though a thicker perching material is needed as the feet seem to wrap all the way around the perch. this could cause bumblefoot over time as it places too much pressure on one area of the foot pads. Same goes for too much thickness. It then places too much pressure on other areas of the foot.

Day 4
Without too much hesitation she flew to the fist. Later on in the evening, she flew the full length of her leash (wahoo!) I think we have been really lucky with her as not only is she calm, tolerant and very steady, but she is learning extremely quickly. Maybe this is the case with all female HHs but our mentor has never known one as steady!!!
He came down last night and was very impressed - he will be coming again tomorrow night to take us all out to the field and try her on the creance!!!

Do you think rearing them in the open fronted avairy and exposure to people, dogs, traffic and machinery had anything to do with it

ok missed a few days out but here's the update.
Over the last few days she has been weighed twice a day. Simon spends some time with her before he goes to work and weighs her then (before she has cast) he will do exactly the same again when he gets in around tea time. She is averaging around 2lb in the morning and around 1lb14˝ in the evening.
She is eating 3 chicks during training and sometimes small amounts of beef. She has been flying on the creance and has flown up to 30m. Last night Simon told me that on the 5th attempt she flew instantly to him.
I don't know if this is common but the last two nights as dusk fell she desparately tried to fly off both her perch and Simon's fist. I am presuming that as she wasn't able to see as well wasn't happy or she just wanted to go to bed!! :)
Lastly, she does not bate away anymore and will sit very happily on the fist and we have even taken her a few walks around the neighbourhood.

What an excellent weekend we've had. She's been flying on the creance a good 40/50m. A couple of times she flew to Simon before he'd stopped - felt like I was at a pantomime shouting "she's behind you" at him!!!
Generally she came straight to him when he whistled. She performed a couple of fist jumps without any trouble and when Simon bent to clean the glove on the grass, she jumped onto his back. (things you see when you haven't got a camera!!)
Tonight she seemed a little distracted though and a couple of times flew off and landed on the floor instead. But generally speaking, she did really well again. We showed her the swing lure and she seemed keen but didn't seem to want to put both feet down. We'll keep trying though :D

Well its been an eventfull week or just over. I have come up with a name for her "AGGIE" .
Been flying her over the weekend 40-50 m, been out tonight and she is instant to the whistle, so tomorrow fingers crossed and weight is right me and my mentor "Shaun" are going to try her free flying.

10 days from her mother, aggie has now flown on her own in a new field some miles from her home. We both thought she was a little high in weight but tried her on the line first, she flew ok just lost thst edge she had last nignt. So its only a little to eat tonight to see what her weight is tomorrow. We tried the swing lure an she went for it but lost sight of it and flew past, only a few meters. She didnt want to **** off on her own. So come Thu she will be just right.
