I really appreciate it a lot all the time when people post patterns for hoods or gloves or the like.

I have made the last two and they are OK, just not too sure of the back end of the Nick Fox one though.

This pattern is simple enough....but requires a strong stitch at the back of the hood ...as when opened the stitch has to take the force of opening. I find that a piece of bonded leather on the inside strengthens it more :)

Stitching......therin is the knack :) Stitching is the key to a good hood ....stronger the stitch the better the hood....I do a particularly complicated stitch...lol....bit overkill really for what is needed....but I can guarantee it will never come loose or let light in. Stitching takes practice and skill to get an even edge and a "pro" look. You also need to understand how to strengthen the "joints" of the hood so they dont come apprt with the every day pressures of use.

The "finish" of a hood is really down to the individuals skill, burnishing and sheen is a knack as well...tooo much...too little etc can make the end result look below standard. I still dont feel as though I have achieved the finish that I am after..... thats part of the enjoyment of making the damn things.....you always strive to produce your best in the next hood you make.

I saw a hood made by Ron Rollins at the fair this year..... his next door neighbour brought it all the way from the USA in a tin..... this hood was made from two tone snake skin ...... now if I can get any where near his finish and standard (after 20 years of making them) ...I will be happy...lol ..... it was just perfection... no wonder his neighbour was handling it with reverance.
