Had some very odd hunting today.
1 Took out the MRT. Had several good slips but the rabbits always just got to a burrow. On the last slip, the same thing happened again. Muttering good falconry curses I took out a pick up piece and started towards where he was sitting on the ground on the other side of the valley. As I stepped forward I flushed a rabbit, which bolted up the hill to where the hawk was. I was desperately shouting 'Ho!' but the hawk had still not seen the rabbit which was on a collision course with him. At the last moment he spotted the rabbit and nailed him where he sat just before it could bowl him over! Couldn't believe it - thousands of acres to escape into and ran into an RT!
2 My husband (Skeld) took out the MHH. The HH was after a rabbit which eventually found itself at the top of an outcrop with an 8 foot sheer drop, and simply leapt of the edge. The HH nailed it in mid air, and both plummeted to the ground! Thankfully he had a good grip and was OK (can't say the same for the rabbit!).
Between ground hunting hawks and flying rabbits, it has been a bit of a strange day!
Has anyone else had similar things happen?
