Very upsetting for all his family and friends, Kat do pass on all our best wishes at this tragic time.
I think thought should be given by mods to starting an online collection for his family, it's going to be a difficult time and this will be a worthy cause for IFF members to contribute to.

Excellent Terry i'll look out for it.
David R, are you able to sketch a card that we could all sign at the Festival? Short notice I know but with the festival in a few days we haven't got long and I'm sure his family would be touched to see how many people knew him from the IFF. A thought anyway, I've seen more than once first hand how this can affect families, devastation isn't the word, I truly feel for them.

I want to pay tribute to my friend Gentle because he's sitting on a cloud somewhere and I know he'll be expecting me to say a few words. I never met him in real life, only in this cyber world where people are frequently less than they appear to be. Gentle was far MORE than he appeared to be. A deeply intelligent man with an amazing capacity for observation, he missed nothing but didn't find it necessary to widely share what he saw. One of life's warriors, he was afraid of nothing..but like all truly strong men he was imbued with a strong thread of compassion and would respond immediately to a situation of genuine need. Where others judged, Gentle would offer to assist and it was not because he didn't see the reality of the situation, only that he did not see how it could be rectified through conflict. Where others used harsh words, Gentle preferred humour and he had a repetoire of one liners that would have done a stand up comic proud. Somethimes they were caught and responded to...but sometimes they floated away into cyber space and he would giggle on the other end of his pc that his jest had been missed.
Gentle liked rock music, takeaway food and 'fine wimmin'!! He was a wonderful flirt and, when describing himself, he reckoned to have 'damn fine eyes and a damn fine a ss'...but mostly he was modest about himself and refused to acknowledge his 'damn fine character' as being a matter of consequence.
Fiercly patriotic, he would not have wanted to live on anything other than Welsh soil and scanned the internet for pictures of the countryside accessible from Bargoed, basking in the compliments of it's beauty as if he had created it himself. He said he was content with the company of his animals...Beth his hawk, his ferrets who he called 'the girls' and mostly his dog Sam. I told him he should find a good woman and settle down and he said he would let me know when I should buy a hat for his wedding..it was a standing joke. The Gentle I knew was a damn fine man who offered as much support as humour; who made me smile with his claim of making the best coconut cake in the world and who was so damn naughty that, if he needed plants, he would nick them under cover of darkness from the local park.
The loss of him cuts deep but I am proud to have known him and called him friend.

Rene what a wonderful way of saying goodbye to a friend. I am sure many members will miss Brian he like you had a way with words and could turn a bad situation around with just a simple humorous message. Brian was a Mod's nightmare when he went off on one of his causes he was so hard to deal with when he was naughty because we had to chastise him while we were still laughing.
This is an International Forum and I am sure he will be missed by his many friends worldwide.
Rene once again thank you for your kind words I am sure they will mean a lot to his family

Brian has chatted to me on several down moments. He plays the Jester, but beneath all that humour and jesting, lay a fine man with a heart of gold.

Upon the wings of Angels, to heaven you soared
Now sitting guard, over all you adored
Jokes and pranks, humour filled quips
A cheeky joke, never far from your lips
A Gentle side too, as your name does say
A heart of gold, such a caring way
A heart on your sleeve, proudly worn
You’re a man to be missed, a man we will mourn
Think of you often, is what we will do
And try to keep smiling, just for you
Our memories wont fade, nor will they blend
Always we’ll miss you, Our Gentle friend

...Rene.
Always we’ll miss you, Our Gentle friend
not much more can be said .

It may be a little hard to arrange with various peopl ein and out. But maybe as long as the family are ok with it, we could have a pic of him up on the stand. He can have a vantage point to watch the proceedings. And probably make a crack or too in the process.

My condolences to his family. I only knew him from the forum. First got a pm from him calling me out about something I said that he took as a insult to the folks on the forum here. He was deeply offended by what he had preceived me saying. After sorting things out we came to know each other fairly well. He was extreamly loyal to those he cared about and by all acounts, a stand up guy. I man welcome in my home anytime.
May his family find peace in this hard time, for truly that is what he would have wanted.

For those that could not make the funeral. The chapel was packed to the extent it was standing room. The vicar made reference to this forum and the great pleasure it gave Brian. He was laid to rest in what I thought was a place I wouldn't have minded being in. On the side of a steep hill looking over a valley to a beautiful bank that had rabbits running on it. Sleep well Gentle and hope you are happier now.

Im so glad you could go Griff.. Its been a sad day thinking about the funeral. I expect Brians reading these threads and having a little giggle. His resting place sounds perfect.. its rather apt that the bunnies came out to play for his arrival:supz:

I hate to ask but please can this thread remain as the condolence thread cos I need to edit it soon to print it for the family and it'll save having to split lots of other bits.. The funeral comments will go to the funeral thread so nothings going to be lost im just trying to keep it purely for the member comments on Brian..
Hope ive not offended & thanks:yawinkle:

Tribute to a Falconer's Passing
(..a rearrangement of High Flight by John Gillespie Magee)
I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And now dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings
Sunward I'll climb & join the tumbling mirth
Of sun split clouds & do a hundred things
You have not dreamed of
I'll wheel & soar & swing
High up in the sunlit silence
Hov'ring there
I'll chase the shouting wind along & pursue
My eager prey through footless halls of air
Up, up the long deep delirious blue
I'll top the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even Eagle flew
And all the while, with silent lifting mind I'll tread
The high untrespassed santity of space
And extend my hand
To gently touch the face of God.
Mathew252
