Hi All
I would like to see how many people would be interested in a Stainless Steel Portable Training post, they would be made out of the same materials as the "Standard" Bow Perches i sell and cost about the same.
When training a young hawk I am always stuck for a suitable perch whenever I go out to to my local flying ground .... I use a garden fork at the moment to stick in the ground for a perch....just about adequate. I would like to have (and get made) a purpose built training post that is easy to carry and can be used as a traing post... a handy perch with tie off ring that can be stuck in the ground.
The traing post would be made of stainless steel rod with a screw on T-bar that has a rubber sleeve (same rubber sleeve as used on the bow perch) that will stand about 3-4ft once stuck in the ground....there will be a round SS plate at the required position for stability and for using to push into the ground with the foot and at the T-Bar junction a ring for tieing off after training or hunting whilst taking a smoke and opening the thermos :)
I will post a pic of a prototype today (eve)....
Please let me know if you would be interested in ordering one, if enough people say yes I want one I will get them made...I will need to get paid up front in order to get them done. Please say "YES, I would be interested one" on this post so I can get a good idea of ineterst ..... this is not a comitment to buy just gives me an idea of numbers :) 20 people would secure production :)

i use one of those big 'T' shaped forks that gardeners use to turn over soil. i think it was 99p from do it all. pipe lagging over the top,few cable ties, blac insaltaion tape and a jubalie clip for teathering.
i think one of the falconry manufacturers already sells 'T' perchers with a padded leather top but the are about £95!!!

I am more inclined to make it that size :) I was hoping someone would say that :) I am still waiting to get the pics of the prototype from the maker....his is 3ft.....but he uses his for conditioning his Gos with a retractable dog lead....lol...not as daft as it sounds actually (sprinter dragging a tyre sort of thing)!

you should do diff sizes, I use a basic t perch but u cant tether a bird to it and it has no ground plate.
What top will it have? Leather? Astro? Rubber?

I would be able to do different sizes on request (as long as we get enough people to commit to buying). The T-Bar will have the same rubber on it as seen on the bow perches I sell :)

Griff, instead of different sizes; could it not be made telescopic wth a spring button and holes at varying heights????????????????

What sort of time scale are we looking at? Keep the design as simple as possible, I'd only lose a pin.

I'm thinking of adapting an old camera tripod. Lightweight (aluminium) and height adjustable. Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea?

theatrical lighting tripod, its both sterdy and not too heavy, im thinking the same at the moment. i need a tripod, im going to ask some theatres if that have an older ones they dont use. they can only say no!

Not really sure as the centre of gravity would be fairly low, the tripod also has spiked feet. It was just an idea I had when my dad was getting rid of his old camera gear.

dont know about the camera tripod, not tried that, but the lighting tripod , which is adjustable, has quite a low centre of gravity and the wider the legs the sterdier it becomes, i wouldnt try it with an eagle though! also the perch is able to spin, a useful little addition. im going to adapt one next week and I'll take some piccies. (if it turns out not to be too embarrassing.) Ill test it on the bengal!
3FT 6"-6FT,£9 top..quiver tip head £7,bit of insul tube..job done,all neat and tidy... :finga:
