I'm not shure, but I fell a little bit confused.
Could anybody explain what's the imprinting goal and how to take the procces to the best way.
Please, Just a basic but clear description.
Marcel.

Depends on what bird you are wanting to imprint Marcel...?

It is a very wide subject, several ways to imprint and the type of bird as stated above is important. Even the goal varies accordingly too !!

I'm intrigued to know why you might feel the imprinting process would differ depending upon the species. A social imprint is a social imprint and so on............. Enlighten me!

Cos he hasn't said what bird, therefore social imprint, full imprint...mal imprint..dual imprint...may be just creche reared... why did he want to know...what did he want to know...what did he want to imprint ???? why did he want to imprint??? get it wrong and you have one real messed up bird !!!!!!!!!!!!! get the facts before you tell him where to go for the answers is my motto !!! but what would I know... only what I have learnt....

That still doesn't answer the question. Why does the imprinting process depend upon the species? If Geranoaetus is going to get any sort of answer to his question then this should be the first question he requires an answer to.
What I'm saying here is that the species makes absolutely no difference to how you imprint any bird. There may be various ways to do it, right or wrong, good or bad, but the process remains the same throughout the species. Or have I missed something?

Hello Red,
I've only imprinted accipiters but remember reading in Desert Hawking 3 by Harry McElroy that the imprinting methods for accipiters are not to be used when imprinting a harris hawk - can't expand on this fact other than quoting it.

So back to different methods of imprinting, some work better on some birds than others. I can't expand either OF but I do know that if you imprinted a Harris like an Owl you would get one heck of an ear bashing day and night

That's due to the imprinting process usually starting with an owl obtained from 3 days to 3 weeks old therefore creating a deliberate food imprint that will be soppy tame, virtually unloseable and yet owls seem to seldom be vocal as imprints.
I'm in no position to argue with Harry McE but that doesn't stop me having my own opinion (Harry doesn't need to know!) and I have to say that I disagree. If you wish to socially imprint any hawk the process will be the same, constant attention, constant food supplied, but not visibly and if done correctly, a bird that will fly heavier, stay close and be a joy. Please understand that for the sake of my typing fingers there is a lot of detail left out and it is not as simple as it seems in the above few lines.
