Hi

It would be wrong of me to ask for the name of a good falconer who could help me out on this site as I am sure most have their specialities so I will open the question to all.

I Have accomodation which I am converting into a mews with my sons help,he is 11yrs old and will grow with the bird. We are hoping it will become the home of a male HH which we can learn and work with to hunt. The mews will hopefully be fully sorted with scale room etc within a month and we are looking for a male HH to fill it with.

Should there be anyone who could help with this I would be interested in chatting with them

Thanks

xan

OK here we go :D

Dont take this personal xan, just my observations. :D

When I first started reading your posts I was quite impressed with your attitude. Asking all the right questions, mews size, possible courses, a mentor and good books.

Then came "Harris Please" and this was before "Childs Glove".

I know you have had some good advise of others on here but how can anyone on here possibly think that you are anywhere near ready to buy a BOP? Maybe its just me

My advise would be:

Build your mews and involve your son as much as pos.
Get ALL your equipment together, for both of you.
Read, Read, Read
Go on a course
Get in touch with a local falconer and go out with him.
Dont even think of buying a BOP until at least next season.

Please dont take offence as this is not a dig :D

no offence taken m8 u carry on.

Had no idea they made child gloves was a stab in the dark thought it might be nice for him to have one for his day out with the falconer thats all.

Think your bein a bit harsh on the others they have mearly tried to help out on the little info I have given and not assumed anything.

Sorry mate, the childs glove bit was a minor point. :D

Being realistic, do you think you are ready at this precise moment if I offered you a parent reared Male Harris?

Hi

Nail me thats my man :)

Ye personaly given my time with the kestrels and husbandry skills I could do it in the time frame I have alowed but then thats how I work. I aint no harry potter but then he started somewhere.

Son will have his day of falconry and is very switched on so I cant envisage a problem with him really.

I once bought 3birds to show worked with them established a blood line and beat everyone in the country within 5 years so I am a tryer.

You wouldn sell me a bird anyway its against your principle which is good for you.

If you email me right now with a photo of all your gear including all furniture, glove, scales and all training gear.

A photo of your mews (completed)

A copy of written proof from a landowner that you have hunting rights.

A reference from an experienced falconer or centre.

Then I will sort you a MHH :D

I will PM you my email address now.
All photos to have a copy of todays page three in them

;)

you need to breath on your glasses then wipe them it says.... "I could do it in the time frame" and i asked for a bird in a month.

I could go online now buy all the gear and get the lads to rush the mews but it still wouldn help.... a car is no good unless u at least know the theory of driving (thought that was what this little tet a tet was about in the first place)

Dont read the sun mum wont let me says its rude :)

What confuses me is that people are willing to sell birds to anyone and anyone is willing to buy them like they were budgies that u can stick in a cage and forget about. If people have learned enough to fly and hunt surely they hold enough love for their animals to want to prevent this and similarly the buyers if they have done any research will know that its not a game.

I find it difficult to absorb some of the stuff and I have lived with feathers for most of my life god help the guy who just bought a lawn and wellies for there is a lot to think about before he even buys a book.

Ye tis a good thread not so much balls as common sense me thinks :)

It is also getting late to be obtaining your first hawk, as the season is nearly upon us. By the time you've got your hawk going - everything will be very fit and difficult for a newbie to hunt.

Make your plans for an early season hawk which will give you the best chance of success.

Hi

Yes sorry omited to say that I will be leaving it till next season inorder to get everything sorted slowly and decided to make the mews into a weathering area and free fly area that he can move into later so will be picking your brains soon.

Would one of you more experienced guys like to put together a sort of list/calander that outlines the year of a Hawk, Used to do this for the youngsters coming into poultry and found that it helped as they could see what was ahead. Nothing fancy sort of.

March : feed for moult

April/may : Moult begin

Bla bla : moult end

Bla bla :Think about keeping warm from frost.

bla bla : rabbit season

Just sumin to have an idea of the Hawks year and the various time periods should stimulate some conversation hopefully. Me thinks force moulting these birds like poultry is not a good idea :)

If I have missed this somewhere please say and I will bump it.

Nice one xan.

Not all people who breed birds are like that mate :D

There are lots of lads that would have asked for exactly the info I did and if not satisfied they would have politely said **** off and come back next season

Imagine how much easier it is going to be sorting your gear and weathering out without having to worry about feeding, cleaning, flying etc.

I for one think you made the right decision and fair play for not being too pig headed to change your mind.

and just think xan this time next year how much you will know and have learnt , weight control , diets, knotts, etc and when you approach a breeder for your new hawk you will not look like a tit and be told to f'##k off and come back in a year

Dont know about nice one just say it as it is me, dont make manny friends tho

Too many people around who think we are the dominant species what we want we shall have and when it all fckd up it isnt their fault. Animals no matter what they are are hard to keep leave alone train even when we take them at an early age. In this case you have us who think we are dominant and Hawks who really are dominant so you forget being a macho ***** and do it the best way for the bird init.

On my box a bit have a thing about human supremacy :)
