Not if you get caught using it by Customs and Excise it ain't.
You get your vehicle confiscated and they assess how much duty you have avoided paying... then double it... and fine you that amount.
Expect at least a 3 or 4K fine and no motor...
If your motor is used commercially expect a 20K+ fine...

Can it be added while you still have diesel in your tank.

Its less trouble to fit false plates, fill up at the garage and do a runner... and it ain't any less illegal either...

PS Or you can knock a few old ladies over and get the money for the diesel that way...

I know a chap that runs his and his wifes mercs entirely on chip fat from his fish and chip shops. he has even gone to the extent of fitting a tank especialy for this so when he gets stopped by a "sniffer" vehicle and dipped they get straight "White" diesel.
Personaly I could not entertain any kind of "Oil burner" and find going to this extent a tad laughable

So are we saying that if you pay the tax man for your vege oil to make it legal as far as he is concerned.
If the Police pull you and dip you you can say rather politely I am legal and I will be on my way now officer.
Also does this effect your insurance? Or is it a case as long as you pay the tax man its not a matter they need to know about?
Also I guess the fumes from veg oil won't give you cancer unlike diesal and the likes so really its got to be good and better.

Your 'heating oil' is I assume what farmers call red diesel. it is legal in some vehicles only. If you get caught as stated above, they confiscate your vehicle. It is easy to detect even in minute quantities (its red)
You can in some garages buy legal, tax added, veg. oil. They are few and far between, but if like us in Wales already getting charged over £1 a litre, well worth looking for!!!!
Plus how about protesting to the greedy .... who is now collecting all the extra tax!!!

Fuel costs are just getting rediculous, problem is fuel goes up and so does everything else.
Shame the government are not publising the use of vegoil it would help farmers out and would help save the environment to. But I suppose the government are only interested in the revenue diesel generates

yeh 60 veg, but like i said thats for my frontera.
Sparrow Hawker

As Blackhawke suggested 60% veg oil to 40% diesel but during the winter months I have heard people use 60% Diesel to 40% veg Oil, due to the low temperatures.
Both used and unused to seem to be fine although you do have to be careful to make sure the used stuff is well filtered, I think down to at least 1 micron.
Two ways to pay duty on it one is to purchase Veg Oil with the tax already on it, the other way is to register and let them know how much veg oil you used within the last month.

I really am interested in getting some FOOD in my tank now, especially if I have to drive more miles now as we are going to stay away from avain quarry!
Where would we buy Rapeseed oil?

HM Revenue & Customs have decided to charge the same duty for veg oil as they do for diesel... looks like the "cheap" alternative for diesel isn't going to be "cheap" anymore. Hope you guys didn't spend a lot of money converting your motors...
Maybe HMR & C would have left veg oil duty alone if there had not been so much shouting about it...

That's typical of our government only think of one thing, I'm not surprised they have done that! Was always on the cards anyway!
The goverment say we should cut emissions etc and vegetable oil is a renewable source so why doesn't our government promote the use of veg oil as the ideal alternative! reason being loss of tax revenue! Would help farmers out to as they could diversify into growing rapeseed etc.
This extra fuel duty we pay compared to other European countries is absoluterly rediculous where does it all go? Buying more Jags for Mr Prescott I reckon!!!
