The new avairy for my eagle owls is finished, looks very bare though, apart from some large logs in there, can any recommend plants/shrubs/bushes ect or anything that is more interesting for them, they will hopefull breed in the next year or so.

cameras broke at moment, will see if i can get it fixed. Whats best, fruit trees? got some nice huge logs from local farmer for free they look good and the owls have already been noising around them and pouncing on them!!! I have some ornamental grasses (no grass darts) and confers are they ok to go in?

also forgot to ask im planning on getting a pair of snowy owls together i have brought a baby female from jenny, staffs. and i am hoping to get a male at some point to go with her, at moment she will be trained for flying, but what would be ideal size avairy for a pair of snowys as i plan to build that one next and kit it out. all in all now we have moved and settled I plan to build 5 avairys for breeding pairs and a few mews for anything that im flying.

i can't see why any plant won't be safe, but fruit attracts wasps and other trees drop too many bloody leaves, and its a pain in the ass to sweep off gravel all the time. So the conifer sounds good imo, they won't land in it but they like the shelter and should feel safer.

hi for perches for my bengal eagle owls i used 4 x 4 fence posts round the corners off also branches of diffrent thinkness tree stumps for ground level
i read somewhere before fitting it out that some types of conifers can be poisness to the owls so played safe and keeped away from them how true it is i dont know but worth the check out if you are going to use conifer trees in there
hello, if you do buy bushes or trees remember not to place them where the feces will fall on to it constantly. also they wont last very long because they wreck everything haha. I have read somewhere plum trees, branches should be avoided for some reason but i cant think right now the reason for it. conifers will make the aviary look pretty but they wont sit in it as they dont have easy access to the branches. even my barn owl has trouble with the conifers. I would just stick to good sized logs or trunks places strategically and a bush to make it look pretty. up to now none of the owls i know of actually use the trees supplied for them.

Laurel shrubs. These are evergreen and look a bit tropical .
I also plant the following
Strawberry plants
Parsnips
Carrots
Sweetcorn
Mangetout which is trained to grow up the wire.
1 tomato plant
Blackberry bush.
The weathering creates a non pest environment and is ideal for growing.

I just looked it up Bubo: Plum & cherry belong to the Prunus species. The wood contains cyanogenic glycosides which release cyanide if ingested
