Hi Everyone
My MHH has come on lots since i last posted, he is now flying free without any problems today a very satisfying moment i must admit. Whilst out he actually took a ring dove in very good style, i didnt even see it before i knew it he was on top of it. But i also got him up close to a mixy rabbit and i mean so close even i could have caught it!! but max was just not interested he looked and nothing more, we also saw more later this time normal rabbit but once again he just wouldent go for them. Could anyone please give me some advice tips or methods for entering Male harris's on rabbit

does he even know rabbits are food? and did the bunny just sit there? i bit of movement might have got him interested.

try using the dummy bunny for a few lessons-with his full rations on mate

Ive chucked him a dead one to feed off, which he did eventually. The rabbit moved he just didnt seem interested. I have tried him with the dummy bunny but he isnt that urgent with it he comes to it at his own pace knowing its just another food source and it seems like he knows it isnt real :(

Feed him on rabbit carcases for a week.
If you dont get the desired result then shave half an ounce off him and try again.

When he's on them make in and split the head open and feed him on the head only, That way when he gets hold of one he will know where to get his feet and is more likley to hold the first one he gets to grips with.
HTH :D

I have found that once a Harris tasted feather before fur it can be difficult to swap over. Avoid any feather live ore dead until you have him going on rabbits properly. I had exactly the same problem with a male of mine a couple of years ago, he would fly a pheasant at any time but needed to be really keen to go for rabbit in the beginning. I had done the mistake to enter on feather. I also find dummy bunny with meat at the "head" really good just like the lads said. Good luck mate, don't lose fate he'll come around.

best way is use a carcass for the initial training instead of the DB.....once on it open the head as been said in other threads and let him feed off that.......next step is an eay slip at perhaps a mixy rabbit..let him feed up and he should go for them just as easy as feather........ohh and weight control is as always essential

mixy rabbits are at there most at the moment as the breeding season has doubled the population so most hawks can get an easy slip at these flea infested rabbits as for feeding up the bird on it nahhhh wouldnt let my bird they are infected with a virus ok they say it only infects rabbits but in time viruses spread to other things thats the way it works ,monkeys aids, then humans now theres cat aids
