Get a doming punch and dappers, use an alan key inside the bell, make sure you use silver solder and heat the metal and plunge it into water BEFORE beating.
I use a block and I have 10 different punches. also after heating I beat it on an anvil before shaping.

Brass and nickel are good. I found you can also make bi-coloured ones, but if you do may sure the softer metal is on the top half. Also use rounded tubing for the cuff or it will cut the leather.

You punch and weld the bell, then I found that drilling the holes FIRST and then cutting the slot to be best.

Excellent. What could be more rewarding than making your own bells. Superb, I was just thinking the other day about all the newbie falconers that are sending off for new anclets and jesses and dont make there own. Ridiculas I think. By the way thats not aimed at all newbies coz I know there are quite a few who do make there own equipment. In my opinion it should be the fist thing taught, to many people too lazy with too much money these days. Anyway top thread and well done to you guys making your own bells. SPOT ON!

Well done m8. And with an attitude like that Im sure you will reach your aim. Good luck m8 and keep up the excellent work. We need a lot more people like you in this excellent art and sport. None of this cant wait to get a bird, rush in know F*ck all with not a mews in site and end up with a big pile of mess on there hands which will get passed on yet again. A proper apprentiship should be enforced with certifficates to prove you are able to make equipment, house and husbandry, handling, coping, different food and there values and how to spot ill health and ways for prevention before getting a bird in my opinion. Sorry to go on, just get a bee in my bonnet from time to time. Anyway you crack on with what you are doing and it can only improve your skills as a falconer and well done again.

i definatly agree. my goal is to one day have my bird wearing equipment that i have made. not only does it help keep the sport alive but i enjoy making my own stuff, its a great sense of accomplishment.

You have to work the metal, you need to push the curved metal halfway into the block and keep punching it. I usually work it for about half an hour, just tap it and move, tap it and move. The block is not a perfect shape or you would not be able to lift it out the block.
If you look at the pictures I psted from Pakistan, they use SILVER SOLDER and use a thin strip of metal to hold the two halves together. I found you can also use long nosed pliers with the tip bent into a curve to hold them together while you heat them up, place the flux and then toucn the surface with solder.
Make sure yu have polished the two flat edge clean.

I made a DVD but I don't have any left I am afraid.
