Does people here train there birds with a dummy bunny because i got told to put the bunny in the aviarie with 2 chicks legs and let it go to it . because thats its own surroundings then you take the bird in the fields with the dummy bunny. does eny1 do that here

First of all what is YOUR goals for doing it?

To get the birds back? Rather use a leather padded lure.
To get it hunting rabbit? Rather use a dead rabbit, preferably warm.
To do it for fun? Rather just go flying!

HTH?

Using a dead rabbit is good. Gets the bird used to the feel of the rabbit plus it can get a taste of the rabbit. I like to use the Dummy Bunny for the first few training flights, then try and use a dead rabbit in training to get the hawk used to the way a rabbit feels etc...

Totally agree with what you just said Paul.

Do you have any birds Harrishawk.1.???

Seems like u on the right track m8. Wouldn't say the forum is enough for mentoring m8. Getting a person nearby you who's willing to help you out and teach you is a gr8 thing. Its finding the person willing to do so. For as when it comes to coping....whos gonna help? the forum? :D
Hunting ground is a good thing to be arranged before getting the bird. Equipment needed before getting the bird. Some breeders supply you with leash, jess, bell, tailmount, swivel etc. but you need scales, bows etc.
YOu should feel comfortable before getting the bird. Experience as well as knowledge should be obtained before even thinking about getting a bird, but theres some people out there that get the bird before not even knowing anything, then the bird ends up being given to someone else or.......................
You seem like a nice person so i'm sure you'll do good. You shouldnt have any problem with getting someone to mentor you. The forum is a gr8 place to ask questions and gain some knowledge. Get some good books by JPJ, Adrian H, Glazier, Emma Ford... Gr8 books for both beginners and "experienced". Try and get out on some experience days or ask to volunteer at a local center or ask to help out with someone near you that has there own bird. Sure theres people on here that are from Liverpool or surrounding area...
Hope things go well for you m8. Any more Qs just post em up. :D

Cheers, Jamie :D

Hi

It looks like you are on the right track and asking the right questions at this stage (especially having visited the Cumbrian BOP centre - nice people there!)

You need to try and find some people in your area who are falconers - they will be able to teach you more about keeping and flying a hawk in an urban area.

Does anyone know if there are any clubs (other than the usual suspects) in Liverpool or surrounding areas??
