Im looking for a new telemetry system. Currently I have a 216 system, but I dont like the long antennae on the transmitters, so I was considering a 433MHz system.

Are both frequencies equal in performance or is one better than the other. I fly sakers and goshawks.

Replies from all thr telemetry gurus here would be appreciated.

216 mhz is far superior to 433mhz. Marshall tx on 216mhz aerial length is only approx 7" - how short do you want it to be ?

216Mhz is also better over hills.

Not as good as 174MHz ;-)

I do not know anyone on that frequency!

Ahh no that one is also rubbish as far as I am concerned too much interference from radio controlled planes, men tracking salmon just to mention a couple, I prefer 216 Mhz.

the 216 MHz has a greater range, i would reccomend that frequency for those with longwings. i use 433MHz (which is legal in the uk)
i have found that something with an 8 mile range would be far more than i would ever need for a harris. in reality its very rare that any harris would range further than 1-2 kilometers (unless of course your bird goes up on the soar) if this is your chosen method of hunting then a decent 433 should still give you 15miles of range whilst still remaining in the financial reach of most people

NEHH,
Have you tried placing your jeross transmitter on the ground and what range do you have then ?

Not legal at all for falconry though!

ive never had any problems when the bird is on the ground, if the bird is at the base of a hill on the ground the signal will be better that if say she was on the ground at the top when i was att he bottom. ive had a transmitter fall off the bird and nearly stood on it until someone pointed it out. ive also tracked one that fell off in a river (and managed to retrieve it)
yes the impossible always happens with me!
