I am looking for a new bow perch for my 2nd year imprint Spar, Some of the bows I have seen are to steep and the ring won't go over freely causing the leash to be pulled up through the center of the tail, any ideas or suggestions for dealers, The obvious resolution would be to make sure the spar always wears a tail guard on the bow, any others??
Jim what perch do you use and does your spar always wear a tail guard?

Mark,
I haven't use a tail sheath on the spar yet. I keep her in a darken mews before flying, on a bow perch on a high shelf. Once flown she's had a good crop and then she's place outside on the bowperch with the bath.

I made a perch for her, with no sharp bends for the ring to climb.

The perch could be made shorter to decrease the angle even less for a musket. This was the mark 1 version.

Yours Jim.

OF did you use Heatshrink or tape on the leather edges?

HM,
I hand sewed the black leather on, this was on top on the bottom layer of plumbers pipe lagging which was in turn covered by insulation tape. The ends were then taped off with insulation tape again.

Mark,
Have a look at this site, then contact Martin (owner) and asked him if he can make the small bow any wider but with less height - 8" high and about 18" wide should be perfect for a spar .

Jim I cant seem to see your pic of the bow perch?? I have been on the falcon fabrication website, I may just re pad my own perch using your method, thanks for the advice, She is feeding on the fist happily and buzzing around the garden on the creance, Still has the last 2 outer tail feathers to drop then I might fly her, not sure yet.

The blooming weather has gone hot again, this is no good, bring on the frosts.

Hi Gonehawking,

I got a couple of Martin Jones small bow perches, they can be both used for indoor and outdoor use and have detachable spikes. There bound with cord so its easily replaced and cleaned.

I'll see if I can get some pics up for you tomorrow,

All The Best,

HH

yes martin jones does make good perches for spars.

they are pricey but maybe you could copy the design if you are handy.

the tails do break too easily don't they.

Heres the pic of a Small Martin Jones Perch, covered in cord. Can be used for both indoor (by adding some feet) and outsoor use, by using the detachable spikes supplied.

Spars are fine cheers Mark, hows your musket doing?

All The Best,

HH

Thanks for the pic simon, glad to hear the Spars are doing well, The musket is settling in ok, somehow a blue tit got into the aviary and he nailed it, first kill and not even trained, whoops. The female is on her bow after her moult and is being reduced for a couple of months flying before she goes back into the aviary.
