View Full Version : Harris might be starting to scream?
Hi guys, i took my bird out today for a bit of manning round the garden, and when i opened up the door to go to lift him he screamed once(like a firewrok starting to go off) but not as loud lol, when i had him lifted and walking about he was silent. im a bit worried now lol. could this be teh start of it ? what should i do?
sean don't think that you'll have a totaly silent bird, and infact you don't want a totaly silent bird, all birds are slightly different, my bird now her weight is down for manning will let me know she's there, the differance is mate, a screemer will continualy call out if it thinks it will get some attention, or hears you, if you're birds quiet while you're out in the garden then fine, as you approach the bird may call out not for attention but because it don't like the restrictions and or the attention it now has to put up with after being free in an avery, if the bird starts to call out on you're approach, don't offer food, bussy you're self with somthing else, and ignore it, if you don't the bird will then associate making a noise with attention and or food, when the bird goes quiet then go and pick it up or feed depending on what you're orriginal task was going to be. food association is the enemy, and should be avoided at all costs, never feed too much, only enough to maintain the weight or very gradualy reduce it, the bird should never get a full crop from you, the first full crop hopefully will come from the first kill, which hopefully will give the impresion that the bird has to fend for itself if it wants full feeds.
cheers guys, ive been worrying all day about it lol
