The Southern Counties Raptor Club (Brighton) practices the age-old skill of falconry and hawking. The club has been established since 1992 and members fly and hunt birds in the traditional way. Hawking with Harris Hawks, Redtails, or Goshawks, flying a falcon to the lure, or an owl to the fist, are just a few ways in which our members spend their free time.
We have the backing and support of a local Birds of Prey Centre - Huxley's - the owner of whom has over 35 years experience. We are also affiliated to the British Hawking Association and, through them, to the Hawk Board, the Countryside Alliance and the National Gamekeepers Organization.
We aim to give advice and support to new members to enable them to gain experience in all aspects of birds of prey. Meetings are held monthly, on the second Tuesday of each month (8pm), the theme of which varies from equipment making, talks by guest speakers, or flying displays. We meet at the Old Boat Corner Community Centre, Carden Hill, Hollingbury, Brighton. The affairs of the club are managed by a Committee and standards are high. Owning Birds Of Prey is a serious commitment and not for people who just want a pet. If you are interested in learning more about these wonderful birds and, in particular, flying them in their natural way.
