Hi Mick,

I'm just getting into the breeding side of things and hope to breed from my pair of Spars next season! and considering double clutching.

I think the majority of breeders double clutch. Basically once the first clutch of eggs have been laid, the eggs are then taken away and incubated or placed under a foster parent. The female bird will then lay another clutch. Double clutching will give you a second oppurtunity incase the first clutch of eggs were infertile!

It's been noted that if the eggs have a natural incubation period of 10 days (under the female) success rate seems to be better than if you were to place the eggs straight into the incubator.

All The Best,

HH
